c. Describe the behavior
of light as it travels

mediums.
Performance Standards: The learner demonstrates care for the eyes.
Integration of PVMGO: At this point, students are acquainted with the importance of the
concept of sound and light, and how it is associated with everyday experience in life.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Sound and Light
Materials: power point presentation, laptop, internet

1.
Show pictures depicting theaters, auditoriums, and convention centers with heavy
carpets and curtains.
2. Let the students figure out why theaters, auditoriums, and convention centers usually
have heavy carpets and curtains.

Light
1. Use the following question as the springboard for the lesson on light: Why are big curved
mirrors installed in some stores? Enumerate the responses of the students and take
note of any misconceptions then correct them during the lesson development stage.
2. Show a picture of a firefly and ask the students if they have any idea how it produces
light.
3. Ask the students the importance of light energy in everyday life.

B. Exploration

Sound
Let the students watch video clips about any object that produces sound, like guitar or
percussions. Have them observe carefully and deduce hypotheses on how that sound is
produced.

Light
Let the students go to the nearest mirror in their house, or reach out to a near mirror and
have them look themselves across it. Ask them to observe and deduce any inference on how
they can see their reflection.

C. Explanation
Sound
Discuss the different properties of sound by providing realistic examples and vivid
representations through pictures, video clips, PowerPoint presentation, or other means that
would enhance the interest of students.
Give the distinction between an echo and a reverberation and discuss why these sound
phenomena happen.

Light
Let the students identify the different sources of light. Then specify that the main natural
source of light on Earth is the sun and it produces and emits its own light.
Differentiate transparent, translucent, and opaque materials and give examples for each.
Differentiate light reflection from light refraction.

D. Elaboration

Sound
Based on what they have learned from the discussion, ask the students to answer
Follow-Up on pages 41 and 43. Compare and elaborate your answers to theirs.

Light
Based on what they have learned from the discussion, ask the students to answer
Follow-Up on page 50. Compare and elaborate your answers to theirs.

IV. Evaluation
Directions: Circle the letter of the best answer.

increases?
A. Pitch C. Loudness
B. Intensity D. Wavelength
2. Which of the following refers to the loudness and softness of the sound?
A. Pitch C. Loudness

on its frequency and wavelength?
C. Visible Light C. Invisible light
D. Visual Light D. Transparent light
8. What color has the greatest energy because it has the greatest frequency?
C. Blue C. Red
D. Green D. Violet
9. Where does our eye detect light?

OBSERVATIONS:

V. Assignment

Advance read on our next topic about heat, pages 52-62. As they advance read, always
remind them to formulate their OWN questions that might arise from their curiosity, and write
them on their notebooks. Encourage them to raise those questions as part of the interactive
discussion.
