PDHPE REFLECTION – CRITERIA D

For the PDHPE assessment task for term one we were given a task where we had to
formulate an engaging activity which had a challenging aspect/component to it. For our
assessment we created an activity called the ‘Kings Gambit’, this activity included an array of
skills that are used in soccer and netball. For this assessment we had to work in groups, me
and my partner worked well together for the task at hand. I believe we worked well because
we were able to come up with an activity that both of us were happy with. We demonstrated a
set of teamwork skills in order for the assessment which include a set of adequate
communication skills, collaboration skills, decision making skills, organisational skills, etc.
These skills were demonstrated by communicating regularly by messaging frequently and
brainstorming both of our ideas (incorporating netball and soccer). We also presented
collaboration skills and decision-making skills by both working on task together by assigning
equal amounts of work to both of us and deciding on the final activity together. We
demonstrated organisational skills by planning out the task and setting reminders for the due
dates. Teamwork skill are important as they helps provide different perspectives and
solutions. These skills also provide feedback and improve efficiency and productivity.
Teamwork is also vital as it provides great learning experiences and helps with success.
We implemented all the key elements in the task, these elements include teamwork,
challenging aspects, energy, communication, movement, fun, inclusivity, engagement and
safety. We added these skills to make a brilliant and engaging activity that incorporates
aspects and skills relate to netball and soccer. How we incorporated theses elements into our
activity was by researching theses skills and adapting our assessment activity to
accommodate them. Examples of this include the challenging aspects we incorporated this by
timing the activity which applied the arduous aspect. We also incorporated the inclusivity
aspect by stating adjustments for people that have disabilities such as a wheelchair and also
providing alterations based on different age groups. Our activity assisted the participants and
individuals to work on and demonstrate teamwork, movement, and communication skills.
Our activity help assisted participants to work on teamwork skills by incorporating the
spelling of ‘K.I.N.G.’ this component helped and demonstrate how all the people in the team
were working together to conquer a mutual objective goal of winning. Our activity helped
assisted participants to work on their movement skills by having the ‘king’ running with and
kicking the soccer ball around the goal third this is to help to produce more moving in the
activity. The activity assisted participants to demonstrate and work on communication skills
by the bishop calling the name of the person they are going to pass the netball to this is to
help with people communicating. Areas that we could have completed better overall during
the group assessment task was being better in communication skills and time management
skills this is one the aspects our group struggled a little bit. We could improve that by making
sure that each other’s messages are being received and we could divide the work among the
week instead of cramming it in to one day. Another aspect and component we could improve
on was the presentation of the activity and presenting it to the class. We could have made the
activities instructions clearer and more completed a trial before hand to see the faults in our
activity. This trial would help enhance the activity in all aspects and help improve the
activity. Our group activity allows the participants to demonstrate teamwork, movement and
energy. These elements are demonstrated by incorporating the task where everybody had to
work together to spell ‘K.I.N.G’ this component of the activity helps demonstrate team as
everybody is trying to conquer a mutual objective. The movement aspect was incorporated by
using the teams ‘King’ to kick the soccer ball around the goal third, this component
demonstrates movement as the ‘King’ is constantly running and kicking the soccer ball. The
communication element was demonstrated by the bishop calling the name of the person that
they are going to pass the netball to. If we could have redone our assessment task, we would
have made the objective and instructions of the game easier and less confusing. We have a
smaller number of people need in the game to help make the game easier and less confusing.
My overall performance in Pdhpe for this semester is adequate but there was a number of
things I could improve on, some of the skills I learned this term helped me with my
assessment task. My weaknesses in the assessment task were providing clear and easy to
understand instruction that would help with the overall understanding of the activity. My
strengths in the task were the creativity component as we incorporate 3 completely different
games/sports which include chess, netball and soccer.
