CLASS GOALS:

• Overall Review: Correction of Worksheet 6;

• Written Introductions (personal and job);
• Personal Ads;
• Introduction of Simple Present.
SETTING:

MOMENT 1 - CORRECTION OF WORKSHEET 6: OVERALL REVIEW Picture 16 (Activity 1)

Picture 1 (Activity 2)
Duration: 10-15 minutes.

Use the correction of activity 1 as an overall review. Find out what your students’ doubts are and don’t
hesitate to use the board to clarify any problems they might have. You can make a review of spelling, word
order, verb conjugation, articles and plural. Activity 2 is just a formal presentation of the plural rules.

MOMENT 2 - WORKSHEET 7:WRITTEN INTRODUCTIONS; PERSONAL ADS; INTRODUCTION OF SIMPLE

PRESENT - Duration: 30-40 minutes
SETTING:
Hand out worksheet 7. You’re going to do Activities 1
and 2 with your students. They are supposed to complete Picture 2 or 4 (Activity 1 and 2)
with their own personal information but you can divide Picture 11 (Correction of Activity 2)
them into groups or into pairs so they can help each other.
There is nothing in activity 1 they haven’t been presented to,
but now they are supposed to use this information with a focus on discourse. Walk around helping them
out in case they have doubts.
In activity 2 you’ll present sentences in the Simple Present. Give them time to do it by themselves. Then,
correct it together with the whole group while at the same time you introduce the Simple Present structure
with verbs other than the verb to be.
It’s important to set forth that so far all the sentence constructions they have been using are in the Simple
Present (with the verbs ‘to be’ and ‘to have’) but that the verb to be is an exception to the rule.
Most of the sentences in the activity are likely to be in the affirmative but they may need to write
sentences in the negative (e.g. I don’t smoke / have children) and this is your link to teach negative and
interrogative. By now, you shouldn’t go for the whole conjugation of Simple Present. Rather, stick to the
first and second person singular pronouns, so there’s no need to display a chart similar to the one you did
when you introduced the verb to be. Focus on the sentences they created; write them on the board and ask
for the negative and interrogative forms of each one of them.

E.g. AFF: I have brown hair.

AFF: I am 1.68m tall. NEG: I don’t have brown hair.
NEG: I’m not 1.68m tall. INT: Do I / you have brown hair?
INT: Am I / Are you 1.68m tall?

In class, you will only work with activities 1 and 2 of Worksheet 7. The other activities in this worksheet
will be assigned as homework.

SETTING:
MOMENT 3 - FAMILY TREE AND QUESTION WORDS
Picture 12 (Steps 1, 2 and 3)
Duration: 20-30 minutes Picture 11 (Step 4)
Picture 8 (Step 5)

This activity has many steps. Go through it step by step so that students have an overall review of many
topics.

Step 1: Select one student and draw his/her family tree on the board.

Step 2: Ask questions with Who, What, How old and Where.

Possible Questions:

Who – Who is your father? / Who is your brother? / Who are you grandparents?
What – What is your brother like? What is your brother’s name? What does your father do?
Where – Where is your house? Where is your father? (Teach prepositions on, in, at)
How old – How old is…?

Step 3 – Teach possessive forms (‘s)

Have students produce sentences using the possessive with’s about the family tree that is on the board.

Step 4 – Go for open questions using the question words and demanding classroom participation:

E.g. What is your father’s name? What is it? What color is your bag? How old are you? Where is your
house? Where is your bag?

Step 5 – Go for the Activities Section of Lesson 1 (Book 1, page 29) – Complementary Class and do it
with the students.

CLOSING

Assign activities 3 and 4 in Worksheet 7 as homework. In activity 3, students will have to turn the
information in activity 2 into complete sentences and create questions for them. Model the activity on
the board. Then explain activity 4 and model it on the board as well. Advise students to watch the Video
Classes and review the content studied so far.
