Surprised she didn't get offered a job at GB News.

"When Channel 4 said to me 'you'll be the first woman', I groaned, because I was rather
hoping we'd got past the stage of being completely astonished that a woman can do the
same job as a man,"

Bit of a weird way of taking that.

A first is a first, it's still breaking ground, it doesn't mean anyone is completely astonished
that a woman can make conversation and read a prompter.

We're in the age where people complain about everything and nothing is ever enough. If
they hadn't told her she was going to be the first woman, it's fairly certain she'd have
complained that they treated her like it was no big deal and that she deserved better for
something so "groundbreaking." You just can't win with people these days.

What are you basing that on? Has she made similar complaints before?

You might as well say I'm the first presenter of Countdown who's got O-negative
blood.

Point she's making is that it shouldn't be considered a meaningful 'first'.

It is though. Throughout most of human history, and into the present day, women
have had to struggle and have been discriminated against in many capacities,
including professional ones.

It's nice for this woman that she didn't have to experience that, but her experience
says nothing about the general situation facing women. It's kind of embarrassing for
her to talk that way, to be honest.

She doesn't come across as embarrassed to me, and I can completely see why she
finds it patronising.

I said embarassing, not embarassed. You know: foolish looking in the eyes of
others.

If I had to put it in a sentence I'd say "I feel sorry for this woman, embarassing
herself with her snide nonsense like this."

But she doesn't look foolish or snide, quite the opposite. It increased my
respect for her.
