AGRB 69: AGRIBUSINESS DATA

PROCESSING AND ANALYSIS

TOPIC 8: ORGANIZATION AND
PRESENTATION OF DATA

VENERANDA T. LARROZA, MSAE

AGRIBUSINESS DEPARTMENT
College of Agriculture
Xavier University, Ateneo de Cagayan
Prayer
OBJECTIVES
● At the end of the topic, the students will be able
to:
a. Appreciate the importance of data presentation
to the success of research study;
b. Learn the skills on how to use some of the visual
and electronic aid in data presentation;
c. Know the different type of data presentation.
Topic 8. Organization and
Presentation of Data
Subtopic:
• Approaches in summarizing result
• Methods in data presentation
(the frequency distribution table, graphical
presentation.)
Introduction
● emphasizes how important the interpretation and
presentation is to the success of the research
study.
● looks at the preparation of the different aspects of
the presentation and;
● concludes with the discussion of some of the visual
and electronic aids that are available to the
presenter.
5.1 WHAT IS DATA ANALYSIS AND
INTERPRETATION
Data analysis and interpretation - is the
process of assigning meaning to the collected
information and determining the conclusions,
significance, and implications of the findings.
5.1.1 Approaches in Summarizing
Result
● Tabulation involves laying out data into
easy-to-understand summary tables.

Tabulation is the preparation of tables

showing the frequency distribution of
particular events.
5.1.1 Approaches in Summarizing
Result cont…
● Patterns in the data can often be spotted from
a cursory examination of data, undertaken to
identify patterns that are not as easy to see in
the data.
● often the case when very large amounts of
data need analysis.

2. GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATIONS
Circle and Bar Graphs
● information provided by a frequency distribution in
tabular form is easier to grasp if presented graphically.
● Most people find a visual picture beneficial in
comprehending the essential features of a frequency
distribution.
1. Bar Graph
1.Bar chart – widely used form of graphic
representation of numerical data.

● The base of each bar corresponds to a class

interval of the frequency distribution and

● the heights of the bars represent the

frequencies associated with each class.
2. Bar Graph cont…

Fig 8.1 Bar Chart

2. Histogram
2. Histogram – differs form a bar chart in that the
base of each bar are the class boundaries rather
than the class limits.

• The use of class boundaries for the bases

eliminates the spaces between the bars to give
the solid appearance.
2. Histogram
● Relative frequency histogram or percentage
histogram – have exactly the same shape as the
frequency histogram but a different vertical scale.

Fig. 8.2 Frequency Histogram

Shapes of a Histogram
1. symmetrical, normal, or triangular – both sides
of the distribution is identical
2. uniform or rectangular - a type of histogram
wherein every value appears with equal
frequency.
3. skewed to the right- the highest distribution is at
the left side and then sparsely distributed to the
right
Shapes of a Histogram
4. skewed to the left – a type of histogram where
the highest distribution is at the right and
gradually diminishes towards the left

5. J-shaped- histogram with no tail on the side of the

class with the highest frequency.

6. Bimodal- where two most populous classes are

separated by one or more classes
Circle graphs/Pie Graphs
Circle graphs (pie diagrams) and bar graphs are often used to summarize attribute
data. Example: Operations Performed at General Hospital
