文末焦点の原則
Derived structure を構成する際に、文型に選択の余地がある場合には新情報や重要な情報は
文末に置く必要がある。
I gave a present to her. (Basic structure)
I gave her a present. (Derived structure)
Cf.
I love her.
Her は旧情報だが、Basic structure なので問題はない。
構文選択のルール
(1) 基本的には Basic structure
(2) Motivation を満たせば inversion/passive など派生的な用法が可能になる。
口語の場合はイントネーションによってストレスを変えることが可能なので原則に必ずし
も従う必要はない。
A review of Chomsky appeared.
← appeared にストレスが基本だが Chomsky にもアクセントが可能。
A review appeared of Chomsky.
←Chomsky にストレス。
Did a man who wore a red tie come into the room?
-Yes, someone who wore a red tie came into the room.
Did a man come into the room who wore a red tie?
-Yes, someone who came into the room wore a red tie.
疑問の焦点は extrapose されたところが必ず焦点となる。
?A girl is studying with me who has an I.Q. of 200, isn’t she, Ron?
A girl is studying with me who has an I.Q. of 200, doesn’t she, Ron?
Tag question は焦点を示すヒントになる。
A man came yesterday with blue eyes.
→Yesterday は Scene setting. Sentence Scope
A man came by taxi with blue eyes.
→by taxi はマナー V Scope?.
→情報量が多くなればなるほど焦点になりやすい。
書評の場合はどの著作の書評であるかの方が誰が書いたかよりも重要。
誰がやったのか、その特徴付けを of で行っている。
1は What happened to the review of Chomsky’s book?の答え。of 以下は省略可能。
By の場合は著者は特定できていると考える。
(31) *John left the party yesterday extremely angry and upset that Mary gave for him.
(34) John left the party dead drunk that Mary gave for him on his birthday.
パーティの後は酔っぱらってしまうのは predictable だから飛び越えられる。

→わかります。という事が大事。それはコメント。旧情報の it
