Core Subject Title: Trends, Networks, and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century No of Hours/ Semester: 80 hours
Core Subject Description: The course provides opportunities for students to discover patterns and extract meanings from emerging trends. It aids in developing their critical and creative thinking skills-- essential
tools for decision making and understanding “ethics of care”. Global trends in the 21st century are examined and are either accepted or rejected on a sound set of criteria. Students will be asked to create and
analyze scenarios that will challenge them to (1) formulate their stances on issues or concerns; (2) propose interventions and; (3) formulate alternative futures. The students will realize the interconnections
between their neural connections and social realities.
Culminating Performance Standard: The learner will be able to demonstrate understanding and appreciation of 21st century Philippine and world literature through a written close analysis and critical
interpretation of a literary text in terms of form and theme, with a description of its context derived from research.

CULMINATING AUTHENTIC PERFORMANCE TASK
Performance Task: Every morning in your barangay, you see a number of your neighbor burning dried leaves mixed with biodegradable and plastic wastes. Some of your neighbors and other
home caretakers complain about the dark and thick smoke coming from the garbage’s being burned. Some complain saying their laundry smells smoke and their curtains as well. Likewise,
respiratory ailments increased in your community. Suggest to the barangay officials and authorities concerned to create a regulation banning the burning of wastes and penalizing the offender.
Your task is to submit an infor-mercial which contains the following points for emphasis:
1. The reasons why burning dried leaves, plastic and other wastes should be banned
2. Effects of burning wastes that is detrimental to the environment and health
3. Suggest effective ways on how to manage waste disposal (new and unique one)
4. Suggest penalty for the offender of the regulation
