Grade 2 Project KSP

Accomplishment Report

The Grade 2 teachers of Tagoloan Central School utilizes both modular and

online distance learning. DepEd Order No. 40 series of 2012 Section 8 –Duties and

Responsibilities of School Personnel stipulates that “Article 218 of the Family Code of

the Philippines provides the following responsibilities of school administrators, teachers,

academic and non-academic and other personnel:

a. Exercise special parental authority and responsibility over the child

while under their supervision, instruction, and custody. Authority and

responsibility shall apply to all authorized activity whether inside or

outside the premises of the school, entity, or institution.

This problem was given attention and intervention by the teachers. First, she

called a virtual meeting with the parents and conducted an orientation with them. The

highlight of the discussion was about the tips on dealing with the learners in answering

the modules such as what part of the modules should be given emphasis and how to

motivate the learners through rewards and positive reinforcement. Since the children

are now staying at home, they are too distracted to learn and they thought that parents

are not teachers so there lies the number one conflict between them. And parents

aren’t teachers by profession so they somehow lack strategies and pedagogies in

teaching their kids. So the teacher conducted a virtual session with the parents about

teaching the modules to the kids effectively. Thus, the Project KSP was launched.

Some of the highlights of the Kumustahan sessions were how to motivate

children in learning the modules. The teacher gave them some tips on that such as

setting up the mood in learning, establishing routine, arranging a study room or study

space where children can learn best. It must be free from noise and other distractors

such as TV or any gadgets. Some parents admitted that they struggled to teach their

kids how to read. It was because they forced the kids to read the whole texts without

prior mastery of the phonics. So the teacher taught them how to reinforce reading

difficulties of the pupils. Subject such as Math is also very challenging for both parents

and pupils. The teacher also gives strategies on how to deal with struggling pupils. The

language used in the

modules is Sinigbuanong Binisaya which usually uses very unfamiliar words. Through

open sessions, the parents can ask the teacher the meaning of those words anytime.

Project KSP stands for Kumustahan Session with the Parents. This is done

virtually at least once a month. It is where parents and the teacher met in zoom and

discuss some problems and challenges they face. It is a support group wherein both

parties give feedback and support system to each other. Its purpose is to minimize the

apprehension the kids feel when they experience parent-child conflict in answering the

modules. Parents can also exchange ideas and best practices to help those who are

struggling and having conflicts with their child in answering the modules.

Among the initiative of Project KSP is having an open two-way communication

with the parents. The teacher made it clear to them that they can reach her through

Facebook messenger app via private message, call and text, and even through emails.

She even created a Facebook group exclusively for Grade 2 Classy parents. It is where

she posted her announcements. In there, they can discuss with the group but for some

personal concerns, they can message her privately and they can discuss some

agenda deliberately and with confidentiality.

Kumustahan session was done virtually but it can also be realized through face

to face when the parent is available. Call and text can also be employed. Facebook

messenger app is the most frequent tool used by the researcher to communicate with

the respondent’s parents because it is more informal but convenient for both parties.

However, if the case would get worse, a closed door conference with the school head

might be needed if there is a need for that sanctions. Whatever is right and due will be

employed by the teachers to ensure that children are free from all kinds of abuse

whether they are at home or at school as long as the child is under her supervision,

which means it is officially enrolled in her class.
