Reflection about the Global Teacher

Nowadays, education becomes global, to the extent that teachers should be

diverse, collaborative and should learn different languages. Especially now that we are
still in the midst of pandemic, our scope exceeds beyond locals. We should think both
locally and globally. We can reach and teach learners from different corners of the world
through the usage of Internet and modern technologies.

Since online or virtual setting becomes our new default, teachers are privilege to
broaden their horizons. Many teachers now are into online teaching; they taught
students either domestic or abroad. This educational opportunity led to the development
of skills and improvement of the overall quality in teaching.

As a teacher, we are obliged to carry out an effective teaching and learning

process. Teachers must have the ability to facilitate a global touch in the classroom. By
teaching students on how to speak in English fluently, we allow the learners to add
global dimension in their learning because English language is our international
language and if we can speak with it, we can also talk to variety of audiences.

In order to become a global teacher, we should have a character—a character

that is willing to endure hardships and love touching the lives of individuals. It is
believed that teachers are role-models because they are known to have morals
necessary to deliver quality education.

Another requirement is of course, competence—a teacher should have skills in

critical thinking and skills in classroom management. A global teacher must also have
updates to the current happenings of the world we live as well as become responsible to
produce content that are relevant and timely. A global teacher should be digitally literate
and should know how to integrate technology in teaching. It should also possess a
deeper knowledge and understanding with regards to the concept of multiculturalism
and globalization.

Lastly, commitment—a global teacher must be fully committed and devoted to

his/her duty. The moment we become licensed professional teachers, it is just like we
are already married to teaching. In another words, our duties and responsibilities
becomes our spouse. Teaching is really a profession that requires you to dedicate your
life to it and that’s why it takes a fully-committed person to become a teacher.
