Redefining, planning as the process of thinking about the activities


required to achieve one common goal. It serves as a fundamental
aspect to achieved desired results. This involves the creation and
maintenance of a plan, such as psychological aspects that require
conceptual skills. In the shipping industry, planning and coordination
plays a pivotal role in daily operation onboard. Usually in the engine
room, a toolbox meeting is executed to have consultation, assess work
hazard and different safety aspect to ensure the welfare of the
workers. Coordination helps to bring together the human and material
resources of the organization. It helps to make optimum utilization of
resources. These resources are used to achieve the objectives of the
organization. The 5 steps in the process of planning includes strategic
positions, prioritize objectives, develop strategic plan, execution and
review of the actual plan to increase the effectvity and efficiency of the
plan itself.

2. Why would if there are no personnel assignments on board?

Without proper personnel assignments, operations onboard would be susceptible for human error resulting
into accidents. Delegation of tasks plays a pivotal role to increase the efficiency of work onboard Personal
tasks and responsibilities are given for everyone to achieve the common goal of the organization. It also
creates an opportunity for improvement and building of character. Different tasks are always accompanied
with different challenges, on which individuals should overcome for the betterment of thyself. The absence of
personnel assignments would result into pursuing personal interests and the group would be unorganized. It
would gradually result into conflicts and miscommunication that would tarnish the sense of camaraderie
onboard ships. Indeed, the role of everyone is highly appreciated onboard to finish the tasks safely and
operate with high quality of work performance.
