Lesson duration: 40 minutes
Lesson topic: My toys
Lesson goals:
Revising words for colours and toys;
Using words and phrases like Come here, please., Happy birthday;
New vocabulary – car, doll, balloon, stickers, crayon, card;
Asking and answering questions about toys;
Skills: listening, reading, speaking, writing.

Available resources:

Necessary resources for students: a textbook, an activity book, a notebook and a


pen
Necessary resources for the teacher: a textbook (electronic and paper one), an
activity book, a computer (with in audio files for the exercises or a CD player, flash
cards (with pictures of different toys) or toys (a car, a doll, a balloon);

Structure of the lesson plan:

Stage 1 (2 minutes) – Beginning of the lesson:


The teacher greets the students and checks for absent ones.
- Good morning, students!
- Good morning, teacher!
- How are you?

Stage 2 (2-3 minutes) – Warm up:
The teacher shows different objects in the classroom and asks the students - What’s
this? What colour is it? with an expectation of answers like - It’s a desk. It’s yellow.
If the teacher notices that someone does not participate, tries to encourage.

Stage 3 (3-4 minutes) – Homework check:


Chosen students by the teacher read their homework in front of the classmates and
everyone listens. The teacher repeats the correct answers and say encouraging phrases
such as ‘That’s right!’ or ‘Well done!’ to those students that do it well. If an exercise
has been difficult for many students, the teacher might provide some more examples
or make a note to provide them in the next lesson.

Stage 4 – Active work with the textbook:


- Step 1 (2 minutes) – Introduction to the topic:
The teacher writes the topic on the board and asks the students to open their textbook.
Every word is simultaneously written and pronounced by the teacher.

- Step 2 (3 minutes) – Presentation of the first exercise:


The teacher presents exercise 1 at page 18 and reads the condition, then plays the
recording. The teacher reads the new words, then writes them on the board and asks
the students to read again.

- Step 3 (6-7 minutes) – Listen, read and take roles:
The teacher presents exercise 2 at page 18, talks with the students about the details
that can be seen on the pictures and ask questions like ‘What colour are the
balloons?’, ‘Is there an elephant?’, ‘Is there a kangaroo?’, then plays the recording of
the following dialogue. The teacher keeps asking questions to check if the children
understand the text (How many balloons can you see? Is it Sally’s birthday?) and
chooses different students to take a role and read the replies of Sally, Karla and the
elephant Trumpet.

At the end of the exercise teacher can ask additional questions in Bulgarian like:
What do you like best?, Who is the birthday card for?, Do you like birthday cards for
your friends?.

- Step 4 (2-3 minutes) – Practice the use of new words:
The teacher directs the students’ attention to exercise 3 and explain what they have to
do. This exercise will focus on the new words, their colour and numbers. The teacher
asks the students to read and say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ if the objects can be found on the
pictures from the previous exercise.

Stage 5 – Active work with additional exercises:


- Step 1 (2-3 minutes) – Write the word that matches the picture (explanation in
Bulgarian language):

- Step 2 (3-4 minutes) – Write the words in singular and choose a or an (The teacher
explains what the students have to do in the following exercise.):

- Step 3 (3 minutes) – Match the picture with the correct word:

The teacher can ask the students for the colour of the balloons as additional question.

Stage 6 (4 minutes) – Active work with the workbook:
The teacher presents exercise 1 at page 14 and reads the condition.

Stage 7 (3 minutes) – Homework assignment:


The teacher gives for homework exercise 2 at page 14 from the workbook and
explain what have to be done by the students.

* One final song to the topic of cars and dolls (3 minutes) that can be used as well as
a revision of the words for colours, fruit and vegetables.
