SWOT
Task 1: Spider-Man SWOT Analysis
Before Sony created an animated Spider-Man movie, they carried out a SWOT analysis.
Complete the following SWOT Analysis to identify the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats that they
will need to have considered before creating this movie.
SWOT Analysis: Spider-Man – Into the Spider-Verse
Strengths
 Spiderman has proven to be a great sales project for
example Sam Raimi's Spider-Man had a production budget
of $139 million and made a colossal $821,708,551 at the
worldwide box office and Spiderman far from home, which
surpassed the one billion dollar mark in the global box office.
Over the years the Spiderman movies have proven to create
great amounts of profi t therefore it is expected this
animated Spiderman movie would as well.
 There will be no issues with breaking the intellectual
property as Sony own that property of all associated
characters including Miles Morales.
Opportunities
 Sony could welcome a much younger audience with the
movie being animated and more merchandise can be made
and aimed towards the younger side of the target audience
as they will be more entertained.
 IF the movie was to do well, there could be talks into
developing a game focusing on the mai n character of the
Spiderman that is animated (Miles Morales) just like there
was a game made recently for Peter Parker’s Spiderman.
Weaknesses
 With so many different versions of Spiderman already
out would it be beneficial to add another complexly
different Spiderman movie while another is doing
successful.
 Not all Sony Superheroes movies have performed well.
For example the 2015 Fantastic Four movie cost over
$168 Million to make but never recouped it’s costs . If an
animated movie was to be made research into the
market of animated superhero movies will have to be
considered and target audience will need to be looked
into.
Threats
 Although there will be the audience of the younger
demographic, the adult side of target audience may not
be too interested in an animated version of Spiderman as
they might be more entertained by a live action version
instead.
 Due to the increase in live action superhero movie there
may be the possibility the audience would rather want to
see a live action movie that connects to the marvel
storyline that’s being created in the movies recently
rather than an animated one that isn’t contributing to
the recent movies.
