STAGE 1 ISOLATING A MILL

1. PURPOSE

1.1 This instruction ensures that the mill is isolated safely

2. SCOPE

2.1 This instruction describes how a mill is isolated

3.0 Compliance Obligations

3.1 Refer to the compliance obligations register IMSP-6.1.3/01.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY

4.1The Operating Manager shall approve this procedure and ensure compliance with it.
4.2 The Station Controller/ Operating Specialist shall ensure that this procedure is
implemented and adhered to.
4.3 The Operating Superintendent is responsible for the correct execution of this procedure

4. DEFINITIONS

6.0 DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES

6.1 Confirm the mill is not running/out of service

6.2 Select the 3.3kv circuit breaker for mill and P.A
fan to local operation, rack out the breakers and
render them inoperative

6.3 Select the 380v isolators to local operation, rack


out and lock off the seal air fan motor, lube oil
pumps, Hytec and feeder isolators.

6.4 Confirm and lock the mill inlet damper, the


hydraulic and isolating valves

6.5 Unbox the mill by opening the mill inspection,


reject box and the PA fan duct doors.

6.6 Close and isolate auxiliary steam de-


superheating line isolating valve

6.7 Insert the spades on all four corners and lock


shut the flap dampers

6.8 Allow the mill outlet temperature to drop to 40 C.

6.9 Issue the mechanical Permit To Work.

7.0 Issue a mechanical Permit To Work if the


isolation is holding
