DESIGN AND DRAWING FOR TOE WALL

A) Design (design report for toe wall of various heights as 2m, 2.5m and 3m.)

1. COMMENT - Please refer design report for toe wall of various heights as 2m,
2.5m and 3m, properties of backfill, active earth pressure coefficient (Ka)
shall be calculated as per clause no. 214.1of IRC:6-2014.

2. Please refer design report for toe wall of various heights as 2m, 2.5m and 3m,
stability analysis under normal case following shall be consider and modify
accordingly.

a. COMMENT - Vertical component of Ep is considered. However, batter of

wall considered as straight on earth face side so no vertical component is
developed and the coefficient of active earth pressure for horizontal
component shall be ka instead of ka(cos𝛿) considered in the design report.
Please check and modify accordingly.

REPLY – Vertical component is considered because of earth fill surcharge.

b. COMMENT-Lever arm shall be considered as per clause no. 214.1of IRC:6-

2014.

c. COMMENT - Check for stability without any fill, lever arm for load parallel
to founding line due to load at no. 1, 2 & 3 are not correct.

 d. COMMENT - Check for stability without any fill, please check the entire
resolve component (parallel and perpendicular direction) of forces and its
lever arm considered in the design report.

3.COMMENT - In design of toe wall of various height 2m, 2.5m & 3m, while
scrutiny it is noted that resolve component (parallel and perpendicular direction)
of forces considered in stability analysis without backfill. However, the same is
not considered in the stability analysis with backfill. It is not clear.

B) Drawing of Toe Wall (Drawing no. CIPL/D1041/STR/DWG/TOE WALL/0102)

1 COMMENT - Dry unit weight of backfill shall be mentioned in the drawing. 2.

Depth of foundation for toe wall of height 3m is considered 0.6m below GL is not
matching with 0.5m considered in the design report. Please check and modify
accordingly.

2.COMMENT - Please refer note @ sr. no. 3, "Toe wall" shall be mentioned instead
of "breast wall mentioned in the drawing. Please check and modify accordingly.

4. COMMENT - Note regarding filter media as per IRC: 78-2014 shall be

incorporated in the drawing.

5. COMMENT - The details of "B5", "B6" are not mentioned in the dimensional
details table as mentioned in the detail of toe wall. Please check and modify
accordingly.
