a. Central Focus: To be able to have basic comprehension of how to
properly create a balanced, symmetrical, and beautiful floral
arrangement.
b. Obj 1: After completing the lesson and PowerPoint, students will be able
to identify the difference between two basic design styles with 70%
accuracy.
c. Obj 2: After completing the lesson and PowerPoint, students will be able
to complete the corresponding vocabulary worksheet with 80% accuracy.

V. Key Principles
a. Know that the principles of design are rules/guidelines for the artistic use
of floral materials.
b. “Floral arranging” is a commonly used term for floral design. However,
“floral design” is more precise, as it implies creation of an arrangement
by a person applying the principles of design.
c. Floral design is a planned process. It is a careful application of design
principles, elements, and techniques to produce an eye pleasing
arrangement.
d. Five fundamental floral design principles are balance,
e. proportion/scale, dominance, rhythm, and harmony/unity.

b. How does the golden mean relate to proportion?
c. How can dominance be established in a floral design?

a. Go through powerpoint about the proper way to create beautiful,
balanced floral designs.
b. At the end of the powerpoint students will have the opportunity to ask
any questions they have involving the five fundamental floral design
principles.

a. Classroom assessment with matching the Vocab learned.
b. Review with students the key terms and ideas that we covered. Ask what
they felt was important that they learned.
c. Describe how this lesson is the pre-req for the following lab, which is
going to be creating their own arrangements.
