Lesson delivery: Complementary: 1. Teacher asks pupils if they know what litter is. Pupils can share 2.1 Communicate simple information intelligibly their thoughts with the class. Litter (noun): rubbish such as paper, cans, and bottles left lying in an open or public area. Learning Standard: 2. Teacher introduces the Effect Wheel where pupils think and Main: write what will happen if they litter. Teacher shares one effect with 4.3.2 Spell most high frequency words accurately in guided writing the pupils. Ex: If I litter, the area will be dirty which might be blown or washed into rivers. This might cause soil, air and water Complementary: pollution. 3. Pupils complete the Effect Wheel upon discussion with their 2.1.1 Explain and give reasons for basic opinions peers. Teacher can prompt pupils with more clues to complete the Effect Wheel. Post-lesson: Pupils share their Effect Wheel with the class. Teacher helps pupils to compare and contrast the effects. OBJECTIVES (CIVIC LITERACY) TEACHING AIDS: By the end of the lesson, most pupils will be able to template Knowledge: state at least 2 words related to ‘waste’.
