CAMPAIGN AWARENESS ON COVID-19

(SPG NARRATIVE REPORT)

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by SARS-

CoV-2, a virus closely related to the SARS virus. The disease is the cause of the 2019–
20 coronavirus outbreak. Due to rapid increase of cases on the said disease, the
Department of Education decided to create task force on the prevention of COVID -19.
In Langtad Elementary School, the SPG Officers are responsible for campaign
awareness. Officers informed the pupils that the virus is primarily spread between
people by small droplets from infected individuals when they breathe or cough. Time
from exposure to onset of symptoms is generally between 2 and 14 days. Hand
washing, maintaining distance from people coughing or sneezing, as well as avoiding
touching one's face is recommended to prevent the disease. To prevent the disease's
transmission, when coughing or sneezing, it is recommended to cover one's nose and
mouth with one's bent elbow, or to use a tissue and dispose of it.
The officers went room to room campaign for 2 days since the population of the
school is quite large. Students and teachers were well informed since the officers were
well-prepared in terms of visual aids and information.
Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) and U.S. Centers for Disease
Control (CDC) recommend that persons who suspect that they are carrying the virus
wear a surgical face mask and seek medical advice by calling a doctor rather than
directly visiting a clinic in person. Masks are not recommended for the general public.
The WHO has declared the 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak to be a Public Health
Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). As of 19 February 2020, only Mainland
China was listed as an area with known ongoing community spread of the disease.

GSP ON BASIC LIFE SUPPORT TRAINING

(SPG NARRATIVE REPORT)

Last January 16, 2020, the Medical Unit of the City of Naga Government
conducted training on Basic Life Support. The SPG Officers were able to participate
during the activity. In spite of the fact that this programme is not included in the
curricula, students might receive this information from various persons, even though
these persons are not specialized in the domain of giving first aid. Basic Life Support
(BLS) is a level of medical care used in emergency, life-threatening situations until the
victim can be cared for professionally by a team of paramedics or at a hospital. It can
help people who are choking, drowning or are suffering from cardiac arrest, and it can
make the difference between life and death for some people. BLS is included in all  first
aid training courses, along with related life-saving techniques and procedures such as
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). As well as for members of the emergency
services, this sort of first aid training can be particularly useful for people employed as
teachers, daycare providers, health and social care workers and even security
personnel.
The Officers realized that the adequate education in first aid and basic life
support should be considered as an essential aspect of the curriculum. As students,
they feel that this might improve both the state–of–mind aspects of the learners, their
eagerness to learn, their passion for the medical art and also their skills. They also feel
that basic life support techniques must be acquired as soon as possible even at a very
young age, because their core meaning is that of saving a life. The Officers learned a lot
during the demonstration of the medical officers on Basic Life support. They enjoyed the
activity at the same time instilled the value of camaraderie.

SINULOG FESTIVAL CELEBRATION

(SPG NARRATIVE REPORT)

Langtad Elementary School celebrated Fiesta of Senor Nino last

January 31, 2020. The SPG Officers assisted the teachers during the
activity. They monitored the peace and order of the school since it is quite
difficult to control the crowd because of the large population. The Sinulog
festival started with a parade which was done inside the school premises.
The welcome remarks was given by the newly installed principal Mr.
Antonio Q. Rimas. He emphasized the importance of sinulog celebration in
the lives of the Roman Catholic Cebuanos. He added that without Senor
Santo Nino we will feel empty and life will be meaningless. The teachers
were the first to showcase their sinulog dance presentation followed by the
series presentation of the learners: Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 6, Grade
2, Grade 4, Grade 3, and Grade 5. The Sinulog presentation ended with
lots of joy in the hearts of the learners and teachers. It was a memorable

ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGN
(SPG NARRATIVE REPORT)

Anti-bullying refers to laws, policies, organizations, and movements aimed at

stopping or preventing bullying. Bullying is a situation where a person, called a bully,
verbally or physically threatens or assaults a person, causing the person to feel a real or
perceived power imbalance. Bullying can cause a person to feel extreme distress. It may
lead to changes in sleep and dietary habits. It can even put someone at greater risk for
committing suicide. This is why the SPG Officers spearheaded by the SPG Adviser went
room to room campign since it's vital to prevent bullying. It took 2 days (February 13-24,
2020) to campaign since the school is quite big.
Seeing as any physical or verbal assault of that nature is wrong, many policies have
been enacted to combat bullying. The Officers notify the learners of some prevention
strategies that can be employed by anyone who is bullied or knows of someone who is
being bullied and then move on to some policies that have been implemented to try and
stop bullying.

Prevention Strategies
Bullying prevention strategies can be employed by parents, schools, and even communities.
Let's start with the parents first. Parents can help their children prevent bullying or at even
put an end to it by:
 Listening, without judgment, to their children when they discuss any perceived
bullying.
 Advising their children as to what bullying is and isn't.
 Teaching their kids how to tell a bully confidently to stop or how to dismiss the
bullying with humor. The parents should also teach their children how to confidently
walk away from the bullying as well.
 Helping kids understand that if they are being bullied, they should stay near
teachers, coaches, or a big group of friends whenever possible.

Schools can help prevent bullying by first understanding the problem. They can deploy
surveys that will allow them to understand who might be bullied, why, and where. Once the
schools get feedback from their students as to the bullying, they can set better policies to
address the issue. For example, if the survey finds that most kids report bullying at recess,
the school may need to deploy more adults as monitors during recess to stem the problem.

Fund Raising Activity for ECO-Project

(SPG Narrative Report)

Many people like the idea of fundraising to find cash for a variety
of good causes. The SPG Officers decided to raise funds for the installment of 3 colored
trash bins inorder to promote proper waste segregation in the school last February 26,
2020. Waste segregation is included in law because it is much easier to recycle.
Effective segregation of wastes means that less waste goes to landfill which makes it
cheaper and better for people and the environment. It is also important to segregate for
public health. Proper segregation of waste thus leads to: “circular economy” creating
green jobs, reducing consumption of virgin resources, promoting investments and
innovations, waste transportation reduces, emissions reduce, life of the landfill
increases and risk to the ecosystem goes down.
The Officers had a film showing and 6 classrooms were utilized
during the activity. Tickets and snacks such as pop corn, candies and etc. were sold by
the officers with the aid of the teachers. The Officers decided to have the film showing in
connection also on the celebration of the 29 th National Arts Month. Appreciation of
Visual Arts was developed during the activity.Learners were very energetic and excited
since the movies they wanted to watch are new to them. The fundraising activity ended
at 4:30 PM. The officers were overjoyed at the same time garnered learnings. They
realized that time management, patience and collaboration among members is vital for
the activity/event to be successful.
