investment, Sameer withdraws R10000 from his savings. After another 6 month period, the amount
in the bank is R31 616, 92. Determine the value of 𝑥, the amount he invested in the account at the
end of the first year.

A skateboard park has a mound that is ℎ metres high at the point where the horizontal distance,
from a fixed point P, is 𝑥 metres.

(a) Determine the maximum height of the mound. (3)

(b) A ramp up the side of the mound is a tangent to the mound has the equation
𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑥 − 𝑐. Using calculus methods, find the vertical distance from the peak of the
mound to the point that the ramp meets the ramp.

Madison obtains a loan from a bank for her new home. She is charged 7,2% interest per annum,
compounded monthly. She intends repaying the loan at the end of every month with equal
payments of R8 645 over a period of 15 years. Calculate the value of her loan.

(a) Calculate the value of her loan. (3)

(b) Five years after the loan was initiated, Madison inherits an amount of R600 000 and (5)
decides to use it towards paying off her loan. Will she have enough money to pay off the
loan?

(a) There is a group of 16 boys and 12 girls. What is the probability of forming a committee
of 3 people with exactly 2 girls? (3)

(b) A word contains two “M”s, two “E”s and two “N”s and 𝑘 number of other letters that are
not repeated.
(i) How many letter arrangements are possible? Leave your answer in terms of 𝑘. (3)

(ii) Suppose that one of the “N”s is replaced by an “M”. Will this replacement result in
more or less arrangements. Justify your answer with working details. (4)
