PET is a general proficiency examination at Level 2 in the Cambridge five level system I ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe)
framework.

1 Waystage User KET This corresponds to the Council of Europe 'Threshold' specifications.

:::::: The percentage of marks needed to achieve each grade may vary from session to session depending on the precise difficulty of the individual papers
::::. which make up the particular examination. The approximate ranges of percentages for each grade at PET are typically as follows:

Passing Pass with Merit 85% and above Absent Candidates

Grades Pass 70% to 84% Grade X indicates that a candidate was absent from part of the examination.
Grade Z indicates that the candidate was absent from all parts of the examination.
Failing Narrow Fail 65% to 69% PENDING indicates that a result cannot be issued at present, but will follow in due course.
Grades Fail 64% and below

There are NO passlfaillevels in individual papers. The overall grade is assigned by adding together scores in individual papers.
