10 ROUTINE VIBRATION DATA COLLECTION
20 Ensure all required sensor connection cables are available. Inspect cables for condition and integrity. If
available use cable tester to check continuity.
30 Ensure that Data Collector is functioning correctly by performing self test. Where available, attach
portable calibrator and check that measured vibration level and frequency match calibration values.
40 Check data collector battery status and replace with fully charged battery if necessary. Place unit/spare
battery on charge.
41 NOTE : For fire pumps only:
Ensure the recycle valve is fully opened.
50 Ensure availability in data collector case of required transducer attachment devices appropriate to the
equipment to be monitored (magnet, stud adapter, etc) and correct cables for any panel readings –
(BNC, banana, adapters, etc.).
60 Transfer the vibration monitoring routes scheduled in Maximo to the vibration data collector.
70 NOTE: Inform operations staff of intended route and review operating conditions associated with the
main equipment items, which should be operating under normal conditions so that representative data
can be acquired and obtain the required work permits.
80 NOTE: If a machine has just been started then it should be allowed to warm-up and stabilise for several
hours prior to data being collected. This will ensure that the collected data is not influenced by thermal
growth and other transient characteristics.
81 NOTE : For the pumps only:
Ensure the recycle valve is fully opened.
90 At each machine on the route take a vibration reading from the specified points using appropriate
connection cables and/or transducer attachments.
100 Allow the vibration level to stabilise before accepting the reading.
NOTE: If the vibration level does not stabilise this should be noted as further investigation may be
necessary.
110 For some machines recording of process data is required to correlate with the vibration data. This data
should be recorded to coincide as closely as possible to the time of vibration data collection.
120 NOTE: Measurements taken at unusual equipment load or operating conditions should be noted. If
possible the measurement should be repeated under normal load conditions.
130 On completion of vibration data collection for the measurement point, review the collected overall
vibration level and spectrum to identify any measurement errors.

B PLAN TITLE VIBRATION DATA COLLECTION

140 This task is required to validate that the required vibration measurements have been successfully
collected.
150 NOTE: Potential measurement errors are highlighted when a vibration measurement has a significantly
different overall level and/or frequency content from previous readings and alarm conditions.
160 Check for the cause of measurement error (SEE NOTE BELOW) and repeat the measurement. Check
that the vibration measurement has been successfully collected.
170 NOTE: Typical causes include incorrect transducer attachment, cable faults and data collector faults.
Measurement errors should not be confused with genuine increases in vibration levels due to changes
in equipment condition.
180 NOTE: If in doubt, check equipment operating condition and potential causes of measurement error
and then repeat the measurement.
190 In addition to collecting the required vibration data, check for visible and audible changes in equipment
condition. Note any unusual conditions using the note code facility.
200 NOTE: Checks for visible and audible changes in equipment condition should include checks for seal
leakage, fluid leaks, lube oil levels, abnormal temperatures, loose items and abnormal noises.
210 On completion of the route, download data to the vibration monitoring database.
220 Run Exception Report for completed route. Review exceptions to identify any abnormal or unexpected
readings.
230 Close out work permits issued for vibration data collection.
