What I’ve written at the table is my own criteria for an effective and ineffective public speaker. I realized that
person that can connect to the audience, regardless of what language he/she used, is an effective speaker.
It does not demand a speaker to cry while doing a speech so that viewers may form attachment to him/ her,
however, if he/she is able to make the crowd listen despite the noise or barriers, it only means that he/she is
a quality speaker.
I like a speaker who is a story teller. He/she does not demand you to listen to him/ her, however, when you
tries to hear what they want to say, it doesn’t sound demanding, but it looks like they’re telling stories about
the content of their speech. Their speech is contagious and addicting if you listens to them.
Confidence is also a best description for an effective speaker. We can determine that a speaker is confident
the moment he/she step up on stage. If he/she was able to conquer glossophobia, he/she can channel energy
to the viewers to the point that they listens to what he/she will talk about.
I love speech that is simple. The usage of complex grammars makes the crowd more uncomfortable about
the speech. Hence, a simple speech makes the viewers more engaged about the topic because they
understand it easily. It is concise.
And the last one is being a content-wise speaker. A speaker should address a topic to the viewers on
something that are related to them or they can relate. Out of place topics of the speaker wastes the time of
the viewers.

What I dislike about the speakers is being a boring one. They are speakers who only wants the event to finish
early or they just want to share information without considering whether the viewers might fell asleep during
the speech. It is not also good to always read the manuscript because it makes the speech plain and
monotonous. Apart from that bad habit, being unprepared when speaking to public is one of the worst attitude
a speaker should improve. Being unprepared when going to stage is like disrespecting our viewers. They
must treat their viewers a respectable one. They should also not talked about topics that aren’t related
because it misdirects the content and purpose of the speech. At last, is about poor deliverance. It hurts the
credibility of the speaker and his/ her relationship with the audience. It is not healthy because the audience
cannot absorb rightly what is the message of the speech. It distracts people from listening.
3. On the basis of the lists your prepared for Exercise 2, honestly evaluate your own strengths and
weaknesses as a speaker. What particular aspects would you want to improve on? Discuss.

I admit that I am still on the process of conquering my stage fright, hence I am not confident enough to deliver
announcements to the audience. When I go in front of many listeners, I find myself uncomfortable with the
situation. That’s why there are words or topics I utter that are not included on the factual information I want
to speak out. And that is my greatest flaws on public speaking.

Regardless of the fact that I am glossophobhic person, many of my friends or listeners of the speech or
announcements find my delivery engaging. I am storyteller. I always love to make my speech looks like I am
telling stories. At least, in this way, I am addressing my shortcomings on confidence. I always find myself that
on the middle part of my story telling, I am gaining my momentum. And I am happy because they still tried to
listen and understands what I am sharing to them.
