Hyponym is a word of more specific meaning than a general or
superordinate term applicable to it. Hyponym is a set of related words
whose meanings are specific instances of a more general word.

Cat, dog, goat is hyponym of animal.

Hypernyms(subordinate) refer to words that belong to broad

categories. In simpler terms, hypernym means a word that categorizes
a group of words. Hypernym is a word with a general meaning that has
basically the same meaning of a more specific word.

Example:
Animals. Under this category there are fish, amphibians, mammals,
reptiles.
Animal is the superordinate. Fish, mammal, amphibians and reptiles
are homonyms of Animal.
Flowers. Under this category there are rose, daisy, sunflower,
sampaguita, ilang-ilang.
Flower is the superordinate. Rose, daisy, sunflower, sampaguita,
and ilang-ilang are hyponyms of flower.
