Grade 11

1st Quarter
Topic: Matter and Its Properties

Content Standard: the learners should demonstrate an understanding of the properties of matter
and its various state.
Performance Standard: The students should be able to recognize the different substances that
made up of Matter.

MELCs: Identify the properties of Matter

MELCs code: STEM_GC11MP-Ia-b-1
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the topic, 80% of the Grade 11 students will be able to:
1. Distinguish the different states of matter.
2. Relate the properties of matter to its specific state.
3. Explain how the properties of liquids and gases characterizes fluids

Procedure

Teachers Activity Pupils Activity

A. Pre-Activity
1. Drill
(P R A Y E R)
Let us start our day with a prayer, please stand
up. (The children do the Prayer)
Dear God,
Angel of god my guardian dear to
whom god’s love commits me here
ever this day is at my side to light
and guide to rule and guard,
Amen

Good Morning class,

Kindly open your cameras, so that I can see

your beautiful and handsome faces. Thank
you. Good Morning Ma’am,

Seems like no one is absent today

Okay, very well. There’s none ma’am

2. Motivation

Class please focus on the display screen, I am

going to show you some pictures that might be
familiar with you.

In here
class,
what object do Ma’am!
you see here?
Logs!
Yes Baron? Our lesson last meeting was all about

Ma’am its water

Logs! Alright very good.

Next one, what object do you see here?

Is it gas?

Very good! Another one.

Yes! Its gas class.

On your previous school year class, I’m sure

that you have encountered these things. And
even you yourself already know these since
they are visible in our everyday lives.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
So class, this morning we will be tackling
about Matter and its Properties.

2. Discussion
Chemists examine material substances'
structures, physical qualities, and chemical
properties. These are made up of matter,
which is defined as everything that takes up
space and has mass. Peanuts, humans, and
postage stamps are all examples of matter.
Matter includes smoke, haze, and laughing
gas. However, energy, light, and music are not
matter, and neither are thoughts and emotions.

Solids, liquids, and gases are the three

states of matter that exist under normal
circumstances.

Solids have set forms and volumes and
are generally rigid. A solid is something like a
rock. Liquids, on the other hand, have constant
quantities but flow to take on the shape of their
containers, such as a can of soda.

Gases, like the air in a car tire, have no

set forms or quantities and expand to fill their
containers fully.

While
the volume
of gases is
substantially influenced by their temperature
and pressure (the amount of force applied on a
given area), the volumes of liquids and solids
are nearly temperature and pressure
independent.

Did you get it class?

Can we proceed to the next one?

Showing the pictures being shown on the
screen, why is the state of water different in
each picture?

Well. Water comes in a variety of shapes

and sizes. It is a solid at low temperatures
(below 0°C). It is a liquid at "normal"
temperatures (between 0°C and 100°C).
Water is a gas at temperatures over 100°C
(steam).
The temperature determines the status of
the water. Each state (solid, liquid, and gas) Yes ma’am
has its own unique set of physical properties.

3. Group Activity
Any questions?

And now, we will be having a small

activity. In this activity the students will get
anything beside them. Distinguish whether it’s
solid, liquid, or gas. Then, share it to the class.

Is everything clear?

Good job everyone!

C. Concluding Activities
1. Generalization
Matter is the foundation of everything.
Each sort of matter has unique physical and
chemical qualities that may be measured or
seen. The physical qualities of matter include
odor, color, and other factors that influence
how we perceive and feel the stuff.
Yes ma’am
Matter is vital to us because it has
mass and takes up space, therefore everything
we can touch and see is made up of it. We
students should have our own background in
matter since matter comes in a variety of
forms, which we should study and understand
well so that we may use them correctly and
intelligently.

Is it clear? Okay

2. Application

Since everyone is clear, we will have

a short quiz. I already gave you an instruction
to bring with you a bond paper and a pen.

IV. Evaluation
Okay everyone please prepare
your phones. I will post a question here on the
screen, and all you’ll going to do is to give me
a screenshot of your answer and send it to me
on our group chat. Is that clear?

“How does properties of liquid and gases

characterizes fluids?”
