DIRECTION: Read and analyze the situations/problems below.

A. During the pandemic period, one thing that we should be thankful to God was that we were given
much time to stay at home with our family. List down three worthwhile activities that you have had done
while staying at home according to your priorities and give the reasons for choosing them.

1. Baking- I am interested in baking because of the lessons I have in my TLE subject. I found
it relaxing and enjoyable. Whenever I feel stressed or sad, I always bake cookies.
2. Playing Badminton- My parents always told us to have some time for exercise so I chose
to play badminton since it is also my favorite sport. This helps me to improve my health
and flexibility.
3. Reading Books- I am not a fan of books before but during pandemic I like it to be part of
my hobby. This way I feel at peace and at the same time gaining some knowledge about
life.

B. During the pandemic, the government implemented a law that persons ages below 21 and above 60
are not allowed to go out and you are one of them. To stay safe, you just stay at home and performed
many activities/tasks to prevent boredom and anxieties. Out of those activities, select 3 and explain why
you chose that 3 activities or tasks.

1. Watching movies- I love watching new movies, especially if it is a sci-fi or thrill. This is my
kind of past time everytime I need a rest or bored.
2. Play an instrument- I have an idol who is really good at playing guitar. With this, in my free
time, I practice different songs so that I can master playing guitar as well.
3. Taking care of plants- We all know that life is sometimes giving us stress and anxiety. One
thing that I do to overcome this is to spend time with our plants at home. I like talking to
them because it feels relaxing and peaceful.

PROBLEM:
It is in international summits that major world decisions happen because of the pandemic that we are
facing in the present situation. Suppose that you are the overall in-charge of the seating arrangement in an
international convention wherein 12 country-representative are invited. They are the prime ministers/presidents of
the countries of Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Libya, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, USA,
and the United Kingdom. What style of arrangement would you prefer? Is it linear or circular? Why? Create your
seat plan for these 12 leaders based on your knowledge of their backgrounds. Discuss why you arranged them
that way.

If I will be assigned to make the seating arrangement for an

international convention, I prefer it to be in a circular
arrangement like the picture above. This is because I want all
the representative feel that they are included in the meeting
and for them to have a meaningful communication. Also, it
allows them to see each other clearly. Moreover, the numbers
on the seat plan are based on their current GDP standing. This
is to acknowledge their overall performance economically as
well.

PROBLEM 1: To grade your last test, I stood at the top of a staircase and threw your papers down the
stairs. Your grade was determined by the location where your test paper landed. If your test paper
landed on a stair towards the top, you received a high grade. If your test paper landed closer to the
bottom, you received a low grade.

1. How would you feel if you were a student in this class?

For me, I will feel sad and mad at the same time because this kind of grading is really unfair for
each student. As a student, I would like to be graded based on how I performed my subjects
because in that way I will feel more deserving of what my grade will be.

2. Would you say that the method of grading is fair or unfair? Why?
Yes, this method of grading is very unfair especially if all of the students did their best to do
the task. For example, I know for myself that I studied and did my best in answering the test but
when the papers returned to me, I see a low grade. It can really affect the confidence of the
students if this method will be implemented.

3. What is the good definition of “fair”?

For me, the good definition of fair is when it is free from being biased or injustice. Fair is a way
or action that should involve reasonable and morally right decision.

PROBLEM 2: The probability that a fatal car accident is alcohol-related is over 40%. The probability that
a fatal accident happens at night is 5 times more than the probability that it happens during the day.
What should drivers do to stay safe on the road?

For me, the best thing that drivers do to stay safe on the road is to not be drunk while
driving. We all know that there are really disobedient drivers that will still drive even they are
drunk. But for those drivers who are not drunk, they should actively pay attention on the road,
wear seatbelt, do not speed up, and check traffic rules for them to be safe on the road and avoid
accidents.

How can I use statistics and probability to help others make informed decisions
regarding my chosen topic?

Chosen Topic: COVID-19 Awareness

During the pandemic, if there is any bias or wrong data information, it will pose
significant challenges to the community. So for me, I can use statistics and probability to
help people to make the right decisions about going outside of their home and not
following health protocols. We all know that there are still people who are violating the
rules and regulations that’s why the cases are still increasing.

With this, I will gather data in trusted sources, like DOH, to create a poster or
infographic that I can post online so that it will reach a lot of people. Because I believe
that if people will see the statistics of number of positive cases in our
country/community, they will be aware that it is not safe to go outside. This will raise an
awareness that COVID-19 is real and very infectious.

Moreover, using the statistics and probability of people getting the virus will help
the government to give more focus on creating vaccines and implement stronger health
protocols.
