1. CREATE PHYSICAL MODEL 1. Select node objects and drop in the model-building environment
using the tool bar.
Note: Place cursor over toolbar icons to identify the function. 2. Select connector objects and drag-stretch to connect node objects.

3. Specify a Completion ( or ) or a generic Source ( )

at the flow inlet.
Node objects Connector objects
4. Specify an inlet temperature.

5. Specify a boundary node ( ) at the flow outlet.

6. Double-click each object to enter data. For connector objects,
Note: Objects or fields surrounded by a red box require data. choose Simple or Detailed view.
Tubing may contain equipment including gas lift valves, ESPs,
Specify Completion Model (IPR) PCPs, subsurface safety valves, and downhole separators.

2. CREATE FLUID MODEL Black Oil

1. Click Setup > Black Oil.
Black Oil Versus Compositional
2. Enter stock tank properties (required).
A black oil model is typically applicable for GOR less than
2,000 STB/scf or where compositional data not available. 3. Enter bubble point calibration, viscosity data, and fluid property
calibration points (optional).
A compositional model is necessary for accurate modeling 4. Select correlations for fluid property prediction.
of volatile oils, retrograde condensates, and for wax, hydrate,
and asphaltene prediction. Compositional
1. Click Setup > Compositional Template
2. Add components and specify pseudo-component properties.
3. Click Setup > Compositional (local default) and enter
Component mole fractions.

3. CHOOSE FLOW CORRELATIONS 1. Click Setup > Flow Correlations

2. Select Vertical flow correlation.

For all operations, there are three key variables: g

flow rate.
Supply two of these variables with the inlet temperature. HOW PIPESIM SOFTWARE WORKS
The third is calculated automatically.
PIPESIM software performs simultaneous steady-state heat and pressure
balances for each pipe or tubing segment (segment length determined
automatically). Fluid properties used for these calculations are averaged for
each segment. Calculations are always performed in the direction of flow.
