“My Family in Third World Country”

(Word Count:1,026)

Introduction

My knowledge about globalization spread more as I learned its fundamentals and

definition in the past modules tackled. Globalization created a considerable impact, and

it affects our daily lives, just like the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the technologies

we have, and the architectural structures we see and live in are all part of globalization.

Globalization is not all about benefits; it also has disadvantages or drawbacks. I can

also say that globalization brings us many advantages from then and now; however, the

disadvantages it brings are not rationally beneficial, just like people who get mediocre

wages because they work overtime. Our country is in a third world country which means

we are a developing nation, and the technology we have is outdated. The Philippines

also has a low income that affects many people, leading to poverty. And this poverty

concerns every child's education, health, and safety. Political, economic, and cultural

globalization affects me, my family, and my relatives. We frequently buy foreign

products, especially from me. I love purchasing Korean and Japanese food and

skincare. I also have an uncle that migrates to the UAE which he always sends us a

package with their local products that I cannot help but compare the quality of those

things here in our country. However, even though we brought foreign products, it is not

long-term use. My family was also affected by unemployment and low-income concerns.

I believe that no person is not affected by globalization, and thus it influences us

differently since globalization makes the world constantly change.

1
Economic Globalization

Economic globalization has a significant impact on businesses in numerous

ways. It allows my family to purchase and try assorted products and cuisines produced

in another country. For example, Korean skincare and delicacies like kimchi and rice

cakes we can experience that because of globalization. My family likes buying things

that can be used inside the house, like the Bali furniture. My parents bought pieces of

furniture made from Bali, Indonesia, because of their excellent quality and long-lasting

materials. It was just the two benefits we encountered, the experience and the quality it

gave to my family and me, that satisfied us. The first drawback is the rapid spread of

technologies in which not all people, including my family, are able to chase the fast-

growing technology. Second, the country lacks local business in which I think is

because of the international products that are entering our country. People might forget

or ignore local products since you can see foreign products everywhere you go. That is

why our government has faced an economic crisis. My family and I have enough

awareness of the unequal economic growth since we like more the products of others

than the things that were initially made from the Philippines, affecting our country's

income.

Political Globalization

Political Globalization and its institutions bring protection and safety to the

country, affecting its civilians. Like the ASEAN, it achieves regional peace and promotes

2
security in the Philippines and other countries. My family and I have this kind of one

benefit since we are a nation's civilians and have the right to feel safe in this nation.

Second, they allow my family and Filipinos to choose who to vote for and support our

government. We are entitled to voice our opinions to the government to improve our

country. But at the same time, the Philippines is not that strong when it comes to

protection, especially in today's tenure. Some innocent people were dying because of

false accusations, and it was not suitable for the country's people. We were, lastly,

voicing our opinion through social media, gathering, or in any other way. However, it is

not that powerful. Most of the time the government does not open its ears to listen to its

people.

Cultural Globalization

Cultural Globalization is particularly important not only to the people but also in

one's country, and it helps tourism to grow, helps to spread nations' culture and such.

Personally, learning about other cultures is already a benefit. If you know the culture

well, it is easy for you to be one of them. I am highly interested in Korean and Japanese

culture since I enjoy watching dramas and anime. I was also amazed by their products,

like the high technology robots in Japan. As I learn about their culture, I communicate

with their locals through the internet and make them my friends. We may not notice, but

we are starting to pick up their fashion sense, which is a benefit also, especially for

people who like fashion. As we try other cultures, we tend to forget our own culture,

which is a disadvantage that brings down our tourism. People cannot appreciate our

country's gem as we value the others more.

3
Conclusion

Finally, it may be concluded globalization has both advantages and problems

that influence individuals in many ways. Globalization promotes unity and unites every

country, but its impacts have been unequal, with some individuals, enterprises, and

governments benefiting more than others as well as me. My family and I have received

enough benefits from globalization. Moreover, we can still improve the benefits provided

to us like employment, health, and technologies in the future. Although globalization has

had several beneficial benefits and has helped increase wealth in many nations, global

terrorist networks are taking advantage of the conditions produced by globalization to

improve their influence and develop a culture of intolerance and hatred. And at the

same time, the government should be honest in a way to avoid corruption and help the

nation grow. In my own opinion, our country's leader is the one who reflects what is

happening to our country. As a result, my family and others will benefit more. It

enhances efficiency, reduces gender wage discriminatory practices, provides more

possibilities to women than males, and improves working conditions and management

quality, particularly in developing nations such as the Philippines. As we appreciate

other cultures, we receive the low cost of products at affordable prices. It will provide

people in many nations with both entrepreneurial and job prospects. It will eventually

contribute to creating jobs and rev how countries grow.
