CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHOD

This chapter covers the detailed explanation of methodology used to make this research flow
smoothly. This shows the research design, research environment, participants of the study, sampling
procedure, research instruments, data gathering procedure, treatment and analysis of data, and
ethical considerations.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The descriptive-correlational method is used to see the overall picture of the investigation of the
correlation between the time spent on gadgets and the result they obtain in monthly examination of Pax
High School students during the first semester of SY 2021-2022. The descriptive-correlational design,
according to Prieto (2017), is used in research investigations to determine the existence of a relationship
between two or more variables as well as the degree of the relationship. The researchers used a
descriptive study to gather data in order to characterize and comprehend the study's behavior. The
researchers used a systematic approach to accurately and factually represent the circumstance or topic
of interest. This research was conducted to determine the degree to which the variables were related to
one another using a variety of statistical instruments. This method was utilized to research the
association between time spent on gadgets and the result they obtain in monthly examination of Pax
High School students concerning their personal information to investigate their monthly examination
while spending their time on gadgets.

RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT

The study is conducted at Pax High School which is composed of junior High School (Grade 7-10) and
Senior High School ( Grade 11-12) and is located in Poblacion, Margosatubig Zamboanga del Sur, hence
it is chosen as the locate of the study.

SAMPLING PROCEDURES

The study has a population of (228) respondents and employs direct sampling, in which the researchers
identify students in Pax High School, Margosatubig Zamboanga del Sur who experience a conflict
between time spent on gadgets and time spent studying, as evidenced by their monthly examination
results, and ask them to respond via an online survey questionnaire.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS

The research provide an online survey questionnaire to the Pax High School students because of
their involvement in this study and also to collect data. The selected respondents answered the online
survey questions. The questionnaire was composed of 2 parts.

The first part focused on the profile of the respondents in terms of section, sex, time allotted on
gadgets per day and time allotted for studying per day spent. The second part focused on assessing the
students to the use of gadgets as well as the suggested measures to be done in order to improve and/or
sustain the time spent of gadgets and time spent on studying. The survey questionnaire was answerable
by putting a check mark in the online from created by the researchers.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURES

The data gathering procedures that was employed in this study is due to the following: Ask for the
approval of their research adviser, Mr. Frejie Esrael, the researchers performed the study entitled "The
study of correlation between the time spent on gadgets and the results they obtain in a monthly
examinations." after the formulation of the research title, the researchers decided to use the
descriptive-correlational design methods as the research design. Then, they formulated an online
survey-questionnaire by the use of Google forms about the study of correlation between the time spent
on gadgets and the results they obtain in a monthly examinations of the Student of Pax High school.

The researchers, composed a transmittal letter asking permission to float the questionnaires to the
respondents signed and noted by their school principal and research adviser. Afterwards, researchers
conducted an online survey to the students using self-made questionnaires. The data that will be
retrieved and will be tallied and submitted for treatment and analysis of data

TREATMENT AND ANALYSIS OF DATA

The researchers collected the data from the surveys, evaluated it, and interpreted it using the
frequency, mean, weighted mean, and two-independent t-test approaches. In this investigation, the
mean was used as a statistical technique. To find the mean, add all of the scores in the distribution and
divide by the total number of scores. The weighted mean is a type of average that is used in statistics.
Rather, each data piece is given more weight than the others. In this study, the two-independent
samples t-test is utilized as a statistical tool. To conduct a T-test for the two independent means, we
need to know what sampling distribution of the difference between two variables to be measured the
natural method versus artificial method in which these two variables perform differently in the test.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

The researchers maintained integrity and strong moral standards throughout the research
procedure. Before distributing the questionnaires, the researcher obtained approval from the agents.
The researcher kept track of time, respected the feedback and decisions of the respondents, and kept
the information provided by the respondents confidential.
