2.02 Supports for Ducting


DESCRIPTION

A. All duct hangers and spacing shall conform to the latest SMACNA standards.

B. Upper attachment to steel members shall be by means of a beam clamp on narrow


flange beams (Grinnel Figure 218 or approved equal) and a beam C-clamp with a
retaining clamp (Grinnel Figures 88/89 or approved equal) on wide flange beams.

C. Alternatively precast concrete inserts similar to C-475 Saudi Supper Strut or approved
equal may be used. Concentrate load per insert shall not exceed 34 kg in case of
inserts in second floor slab and shall not exceed 22 kg in case of roof slab. Hanger
spacing may be reduced to less than specified in SMACNA in order not to exceed the

loading. Wire hangers shall not be used.

D. All ducts shall be braced and stiffened so as not to breathe, rattle, vibrate or sag. The

E. Fasten piping securely to the structure without overstressing any portion of the
supports or the structure itself. Secure pipe supports, anchors and guides to concrete
by means of inserts of if greater load carrying capacity is required by means of steel
fishplates embedded in the concrete. Secure pipe supports, anchors and guides to
steel members using beam clam on narrow flange beams, (Grinnel Figure 218 or
approved equal) and a beam C-clamp with a retaining clamp on wide flange steel
members (Grinnel Figures 88/89 or approved equal).

P. Wall Supports: Provide for supporting horizontal piping from wall with steel J-Hook for
pipe located close to wall and not larger than 3” (80 mm) pipe. For greater loads, up
to 1500 lbs (680 Kg) maximum loading provide welded steel bracket.

3.01 General

A. All pipe supports shall be installed in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s
recommendations accordance with all applicable codes and standards listed in
these specifications.

B. All pipe supports shall be installed as shown on the Drawings and on approved
shop drawings.

C. Supports shall be located as required to limit maximum pipe deflection to 2.5 mm


when field with water and so as not to induce excessive concentrate loads on the
building structure.

D. Vertical piping passing through slabs shall be supported with appropriate pipe
clamps installed above slab.

E. Supports shall be located at all changes of direction.

F. Structural steel anchors shall be installed as shown on Drawings and as required to
