words?
3. What have learned throughout the
activity?
D. Abstraction
This time, for you to have background on
our topic. Let’s discuss about inferring
meanings. Doing, finding or inferring words
is a long-detailed process. In fact, it
provides us to where we are in the process
and possible difficulties we are
encountering. In inferring words, you can
give different meanings using the sentence
given. Take this as an example. Give the
two different meanings of the underlined
words in a sentence.
A. His dream was to win the contest
B. Winning the contest was part of his
dream while sleeping.
So, the meaning of the word dream in letter
a is a memory of the thoughts of what may
happen and for letter b the meaning of the
word dream is the state of being occupied
by your thoughts or daydream.
Another example is;
The gentleman (A) rose from his chair and
handed the red (B) rose to the beautiful
lady.
So, the meaning of the word rose in letter
A is actually a past tense of the word rise
where a gentleman rise from his chair and
for letter B the meaning of the word rose is
a beautiful sweet smelling flower growing
on a thorny shrub.
And that is an example of inferring or
giving meaning of the words in different
way of presenting a sentence.
E. Application
And now class it’s your turn. I will present
a sentence and all you need to is to infer or
give the meaning of the underline words in
the sentence.
Are we clear? Yes ma’am.
Questions Possible answer of the students
1. The aid (A) close to the governor - For letter A, the meaning of the
stood up to (B) close the door. word close is being near and not
far and for letter B the meaning
of the word close it to shut
something or end something.
2. Felix raised his (A) bow and - For letter A, the meaning of the
unleashed the arrow. He turned to word bow is a stringed weapon
the people watching him and took a used to propel arrow and for
(B) bow. letter B the meaning of the word
bow is to bend your or body
forward in showing expressing
respect and gratitude to people.
