Directions: Write TRUE if the statement is correct, and FALSE if
it is not.
__________ 1. An impactful research design usually creates a
minimum bias in data and increases trust in the
accuracy of collected data.
__________ 2. The function of a research design is to ensure that
requisite data for the given problem at hand is
collected accurately and economically.
__________ 3. Research design ensures project time schedule.
__________ 4. Research design is needed because it facilitates the
smooth sailing of the various research operations.
__________ 5. Research design ensures credibility and reliability
of the results from the investigation conducted.

PERFORMANCE TASK:
Each group is given a published article to read and scrutinize
how the scientific research goes based in his reading. Each
group will only have one output to be passed on the deadline.
Each group will get his assigned date to report the output via
Google Meet or through messenger. Students will base their
outputs on a rubric provided by their research adviser. Rubric is
provided for scoring during the assigning of research articles to
work with.

Activity 2. Try Me!

Directions: In each of the following examples, describe the
types and methods of sampling being used.

1. Mrs. Cruz is interested in knowing what study techniques

her students are utilizing. Rather than assessing all
students, she randomly selects 10 students from each of
the sections to comprise their sample.

2. A researcher has a population of 100 Grade 9 students

from a local school district from which a sample of 25
children is to be selected. Each child’s name is put on a
list, and each child is assigned a number from 1 to 100.
Then the numbers 1 to 100 are written on separate pieces
of paper and shuffled. Finally, the researcher picks 25
slips of paper and the numbers on the paper determine the
25 participants.

3. A sample of 2,000 was sought to estimate the average

achievement in Science of Grade 8 students in a public
secondary school. The average Grade 8 enrollment in the
public secondary schools is 100 students. Thus, 20 schools
were randomly selected and within each of those schools
all grade 8 were tested.

4. A sociologist conducts an opinion survey in a major city.

Part of the
research plan calls for describing and comparing the
opinions of four different ethnic groups: African Americans,
Asian Americans, European Americans, and Native
Americans. For a total sample of 300, the researcher
selects 75 participants from each of the four predetermined
subgroups.

5. A restaurant leaves a fish bowl on the counter for diners to

drop their business cards. Once a month, a business card
is pulled out to award one lucky diner with a free meal.
