Learning Episode 5: Creating an Appropriate Learning

Environment

Activity 5.1 Managing Time, Space and Learning

School: Campoyong Elementary School__________________

Grade/Year Level: ___V___ Date: _______________

ANALYZE
Analyze and answer these questions on observed classroom management practices.
It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information, so you can validate your
observation. Write your notes below, and the organize your data in that tables follow.

1.Are there area in the classroom for specific purpose (storage of teaching aids, books,
student belongings, supplies, etc.)? Describe this area. Will it make difference if these
areas for specific purpose are not present?
The classroom set up is just a typical and traditional Philippine elementary style
where there is a blackboard in front of the room and a table in the center front. The row
of the seats are occupying the whole space of the room with only minimal spaces left for
other areas. There is a small cabinet in the left side of the classroom near the window. It
is where some of the modules and old projects/outputs of previous students are
displayed. The wall displays are all over the walls. Although it does not encourage active
learning environment, how it is being organized it is still promotes positive learning
among students.

2.Are there rules and procedure posted in the room? List them down. Do these rules
reinforce positive behavior?
Some of the class rules posted in the room are:

 Listen while others are talking

 Follow directions
 Work quietly and don’t disturb others
 Raise your hand when asking question
Establishing classroom rules reflect the students successful learning. Students
become responsible for their action and leads them to understand their task clearly.

REFLECT
Reflection as a future teacher.
1. Why do you need to enforce positive discipline?
Positive discipline must be enforced in order to effectively manage the
classroom. Even if the pupils are well-behaved, there are unanticipated
occurrences that test the patience of the teachers. Positive discipline must be
enforced among students in order to positively address problems that may
develop in the classroom without being too harsh on children. Students will
have fewer negative thoughts about themselves, which will result in fewer
undesirable behaviors or reactions. This will also assist the teacher in instilling
positive ideals in his or her students. Furthermore, pupils will be accountable
for their actions, reasonable, critical, and capable of making sound decisions
in a variety of scenarios

ANALYZE
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learner’s behavior?
Classroom organization and routine effect the learner’s behavior positively
through making them responsible and helps manage their learning better. It also
enhances their confidence, regulates their conduct and establishes positive
relationship in the classroom. Students may also be able to gain self-control, which
will lower their chances of failing their classes.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when he/she design the classroom
organization and routines? What theories and participants should you have in mind?
The following theories and principles must be considered by the instructor
while planning classroom organization and routine:
• Behaviorist theory, often known as Behaviorism, is a theory that focuses on
pupils' behaviors, both positive and bad.
• Humanist theory or Humanism, which stresses human capacities, as well as
the aims, learning styles, and preferences of pupils.
• Democratic theory: students are given the opportunity to participate in
educational decision-making as well as equal opportunities to pick their own
educational route.
• Psychoanalytic theory, in which the instructor must consciously or
subconsciously consider the students' thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
• Cognitive theory should be examined in order to pay attention to the
learners' mental processes and knowledge building.

3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the

learner’s? In motivating student? Why were they effective?

The following are some behavioral tactics that teachers can employ to
effectively manage or motivate pupils' behavior:
• Set up a new learner-centered classroom setting so kids may be more
independent and self-reliant.
• In order to serve different types of learners, use a wide range of tools,
resources, techniques, and strategies when teaching.
• Establish classroom expectations, or simply classroom norms, that students
can meet.
• Effectively reinforce instructional practices and processes.
• Recognize good behavior and reward them for a job well done. This will not
only motivate them, but it will also help them sustain their good behavior.

REFLECT
Reflect on the following and write your insight.
1. Imaging yourself organizing your classroom in the future. What grade level do you
see yourself? What routine or procedures would you consider for this level. Why?
In the not-too-distant future, I picture myself instructing Grade 5 students. I
shall begin my lesson with a prayer, which is very important to me. Following that,
inquire as to how they are doing, whether they are happy, how they feel about our
issue, and so on. These questions will assist me in determining the present state of
my students' understanding of my lessons. If they ever told me how they felt about
learning my subject, I could quickly figure out what tactics I need to implement to
meet their needs. Then there are the standard procedures such as attendance,
incentive activities, and genuine conversation with regular questioning to ensure
comprehension.
2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you
choose these rules?
The following are the regulations that I would most likely impose on this group
of students:
1. Assist them in appreciating the value of punctuality by being on time.
2. Respect one another - This is a basic concept that everyone should
understand.
3. Follow directions - Remind children that things will go well if they
follow directions.
4. Stay silent. To reduce loud noises, raise your hand if you want to
talk.
5. No meals, gums, or drinks during class discussions - It is rude to the
teachers if students eat during class discussions.
6. Ask inquiries - To normalize asking questions if the concepts are
unclear. Also, to prevent them from producing incorrect results.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules, why?
Students should be involved in the creation of classroom rules in order to help
them develop leadership abilities and understand the importance of taking
responsibility for their own actions and behaviors. It also allows students and
teachers to work together to agree on the regulations that must be established.
Making the rules, on the other hand, should be guided by the teachers, as they are
the ones who are familiar with the guidelines and know how to conduct a productive
discussion about the rules to be included.

ANALYZE
1. Analyze each given rule. What circumstances led to the formulation of the rule?
Most of the time students without guidance or what so called guided by the
rules are the irresponsible one and always committing mistakes, to avoid such
scenario rules are being formulated for the formation of the students for the brighter
future.
2. Are classroom rules really important?
Classroom rules are important in the classroom because they not only prevent
students from misbehaving, but they also shape their behavior and discipline, which
promotes their learning. It also helps kids become more responsible and aware of
the class's dos and don'ts.

REFLECT

Reflect on the various classroom rules set by the Resource Teacher. Will you have
the same rules? If not, what rules are you going to employ? Explain your answer .
Almost all of the regulations I've faced throughout my schooling life have been
the same, and I'll follow the rules that my teacher follows. It just varies in terms of
how the regulations are implemented. Rules will be obeyed very well if they are
adequately implemented, and vice versa if they are not.
