20. (a ) 1 mark
SECTION – B
Questions 21 to 26 carry 1 mark each.
21. -12x2 + 28x – 15x + 35 ½ mark
-12x2 + 13x + 35 ½ mark
22. 5( y – 4) 1 mark
23. Square and Circle. ½ + ½ mark

24. 1 mark

25. 2 (4 x 2 +7 ) + 3 ½ mark
= 2 (8 +7) + 3
½ mark
= 2 x 15 + 3 = 33

26. A= 5, B=6 ½ + ½ mark

SECTION – C
Questions 27 to 30 carry 2 marks each.
27. (59)2 = ( 60 – 1)2 ½ mark
(60 – 1)2 = (60)2 – 2 x 60 x 1 + 1 1mark
= 3600 – 120 + 1
= 3481 ½ mark
28. Cube, Faces =6, ½ + ½ mark

Page - 1 -
Edges = 12, Vertices = 8 ½ + ½ mark
29.
am an = am – n, a-m = ½ mark
= 37 – 9 ½ mark
= 3-2
½ mark
= =
½ mark
2
30. a + 6a + 8a + 48 1 mark
a(a + 6) + 8( a + 6) ½ mark
(a + 6) ( a + 8 ) ½ mark
SECTION – C
Questions 31 to 32 carry 3 marks each.
31. l = 12 m, b = 8 m, h = 4 m ½ mark
Area of the four walls of the room = Perimeter of the base × Height of the
room ½ mark
= 2 (l + b) × h = 2 (12 + 8) × 4 = 2 × 20 × 4 = 160 m2.
Area of ceiling is 12 × 8 = 96 m2
Total area ( four walls area and ceiling of room ) = 160 + 96 = 256 m2 1 mark
Cost of white washing per m2 = Rs 5
Hence the total cost of white washing four walls and ceiling of the room
= Rs (256 × 5) 1 mark
= Rs 1280

32. Let speed of the train (in km) be x.

And time taken (in minutes) to cover distance be y. 1 hour = 60 minutes
X (in km ) 75 X2 250
Y (in 60 20 Y3 1 mark
minutes)
X and Y are in directly proportion, so = k( constant)
= , =

1 mark
X2 = = 25 km

So, the train will cover a distance of 25 km in 20 minutes.

(ii) Also, =
=
1 mark
Y3 = 200 minutes. ( 3 hours 20 minutes )
So, 3 hours 20 minutes will be required to cover a distance of 250 Km.

SAMPLE PAPER

MM: 40 TIME : 90 MINUTES

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

1. The question paper is divided into three sections. All the sections are compulsory.

Section A Reading 8 Marks

Section B Writing & Grammar 14 Marks
Section C Literature 18 Marks

SECTION A: READING

I. Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow. (1x8= 8 Marks)

The culture of nuclear families is in fashion. Parents are often heard complaining about the
difficulties in bringing up children these days. Too much of freedom in demand, too much
independence; overnight parties; excessive extravagance, splurging pocket money; no time
for studies and family all this is a common cry of such families. Aren’t parents, themselves,
responsible for this pitiful state? The basic need of a growing youth is the family, love, attention
and bonding along with moral values. One should not forget that ‘charity begins at home’.

Independence and individuality both need to be respected, in order to maintain the sanctity
of family. Children, today are to be handled with tact in order to bridge the ever widening
generation gap. Only the reasonable demands need to be fulfilled, as there are too many
expenses to be met and too many social obligations to be taken care of by the parents. Our
forefathers lived happily in joint families. Children loved to live with their cousins, learnt to
adjust within means. There was perfect harmony between the generations. There never
existed the concept of old-age homes. There was deep respect for the family elders and love,
care and concern for the youngsters. Even the minor family differences were solved amicably.

Answer the following questions :

a) Mention any two major common concerns of a nuclear family.

b) Mention any two advantages of Joint family system ?
