use to clean?

Which household liquid would clean a coin the
best?
• My 8-year-old daughter and I did this project because there are a lot of liquids
in our home and we clean a lot. We wanted to know what substance/liquid
would clean the best. So we thought that a coin, which is really dirty, would
be a great way to test in this experiment. The method we used was a variable
that was compared and contrasted. We decided to then leave the coins in for
8hrs, compare each coin and then again at 24hrs. After the 24hrs, we took
each coin out of the liquid, did a quick wipe with some paper towel and
compared and contrasted again.
Background Research/Hypothesis
• Coke contains an acid called phosphoric acid which is the most important
oxygen acid. You can find this also in salts, fertilizers and dental cement.
• Vinegar and salt mixed together can cause a reaction that will remove the
copper oxide
Because Coke has a lot of phosphoric acid in it our hypothesis is that we think it
will clean better than the other liquids.
