1.Aim: To verify Kirchhoff’s Current Law (KCL) and study its limitations.

2. Apparatus:

S. NO. Equipment Name Specifications and ratings Quantity in nos.

1 Regulated variable DC supply 9V,6A 1

2 Digital multi meter 0-30V 1

3 Resistors Of different values 4

4 Connecting wires As per requirements

3. Circuit Diagram:

4. Steps for experiment:

Step 01) Connect the circuit as shown in fig.

Step 02) Measure the circuit through the resistors.
Step 03) Observe that the current flowing into the junction is equal to the current
flowing out of it.

5. Calculations/Theorems /Formulas used etc

FORMULA => I = I1 + I2 + I3 + I4

Applying KCL at junction B, I1 = I2 + I3

Applying KCL at junction G, I2 = I3 + I4

6. Observations/Discussions:

Kirchhoff’s Current Law (The Junction Rule) states that at any junction (node) of a
circuit, the algebraic sum of all the currents is zero (sum of the currents entering the
junction equals to the sum of the currents leaving the junction). In other words electric
charge is conserved.

Calculated Value Of Current = Theoretical Value Of Current

This shows that the current flowing into Junction B and Junction G is equal to the current
flowing out of it.

Learning outcomes (What I have learnt):

1. Measure the value of resistance and current.

2. Design the circuits using series or parallel combination of elements.

3. Verify Kirchhoff’s current law.
