ACCOMPLISHMENT AND NARRATIVE REPORT

Effective methods and strategies in teaching are important factors in order to achieve an
effective and efficient learning and development for the students. With the great demand in the
new normal form of learning, the DComC-Physical Education Club came up with a proposal
entitled ON-RAMP TO THE NEW NORMAL: A Webinar on Effective Methods and Strategies
in Teaching MAPEH in the New Normal Form of Learning. The said proposal has the following
objectives: a.) To equip MAPEH Students with the new methods and strategies to cope with the
demands of the new normal society; b.) To develop training modules relative to effective
strategies in teaching MAPEH to cope with the challenges of the new normal society; and c.) To
prepare the MAPEH Students emotionally, mentally and physically in facing the constraints of
the new normal society. On March 4, 2021 the proposed webinar was approved by the DComC-
College Administrator, Dr. Joey M. Zamora, as per recommending approval of the DComC-
College Dean, Dr. Melvin M. Goyena dated that it will be conducted on March 12, 2021 with
March 10-11,2021 as the pre-registration period. But due to unexpected circumstances, the
webinar was moved on March 23, 2021, Tuesday- 8:30-12:00.
After all the necessary planning and preparations done by the different persons in-charge
and all officers involved, the 1st webinar of DComC- Physical Education Club of 2021 was
conducted at Daraga Community College, Salvacion, Daraga, Albay on March 23, 2021. It
started at 8:30am live on the official Facebook page of Daraga Community College with Jordan
M. Banania and Jobert Y. Besmonte as the masters of the ceremony. The webinar formally
started with an invocation and the Philippine National Anthem through an AVP presentation
followed by the netiquettes read by Alexander Alejo, P.E. Club- P.I.O. The opening remarks was
given by our very own College Dean, Dr. Melvin M. Goyena, followed by a message from the
ever-supportive College Administrator, Dr. Joey M. Zamora, through a pre-recorded video
presentation. To continue the program, the masters of ceremonies warmly welcomed all the
viewers live online and also promoted the upcoming 18th Founding Anniversary of our beloved
college. It took a long time for the next part of the program to be introduced, but while waiting,
the emcees were able to entertain the viewers with a pre-recorded song number from Mr. Jerico
Arevalo, a 2nd year Mathematics Major student and question and answer portion with the viewers
given a 50 pesos load as a prize. Simultaneously with the Facebook live, the Club Adviser, Ms.
Gladys Mae L. Millena, together with the College Student Council-President, Mr. Robert M.
Molleno and Alexander Alejo, went on the road to pick up the resource speaker at their house for
she can’t come on the setting of the webinar due to unexpected heavy rain. On their way back to
the college, they tried to be on live while at the car. The said webinar literally became an on-
ramp as it was said by the resource speaker. But then again, despite of the ups and downs, the
show must go on. With the very energetic and flexible resource speaker, the main event came
into reality as the masters of the ceremonies introduced her being the MAPEH- Department
Chairperson of Daraga National High School who was engaged with different national and
regional training for teachers and division sports clinic. Her being a rhythmic gymnastics coach
at present is indeed evident with the circumstances faced before and during her talk. Ms. Ayende
actively started the first part of her topic with a priming activity to set the mood for the online
viewers then smoothly go on with her discussion about the Different Learning Modalities by
DepEd that is directly compared between the face to face or normal form learning and the
distance learning in the new normal. During her talk, still the problem in online connectivity
became the struggle of the organization. The speaker had to repeat some parts of her talk but
with an awe, everyone was being motivated because of her energy and active participation. But
then, to maximize the learning for the viewers, the club came up with recording the topic of Ms.
Ayende which was achieved by having a dance number by first year BCAED students and a
raffle as fillers online being moderated by the emcees. This paved way in the presentation of her
second topic about Teaching Methods and Strategies in the New Normal wherein she shared
different platforms that can be used by the future MAPEH teachers and other courses students of
Daraga Community College in the teaching and learning process. To end her talk, she left a
notable quote of Carl Rogers saying “The only person who is educated is the one who has
learned how to learn and change.” After this the resource speaker welcomed queries from the
viewers in an open forum where the students asked questions on the Facebook live commenting
section and being answered by Ms. Ayende from the screen. Through this, the students were
enlightened and were being motivated to pursue learning towards their dream’s despite of the
uncontrollable changes in the community brought by the Covid-19 pandemic. And to express the
gratitude of the club to the resource speaker, a certificate of commendation was presented to her
by Ms. Millena, the club adviser, who also addressed her closing remarks extending appreciation
and thanks giving to all who became part of the success of the event.
Truly, the fruit of this event is not only the knowledge filled in everyone’s mind but most
especially the character formation during the process. The program ended at 4:00 in the
afternoon and evaluation of the program was done online through a google form.
