1.0 Scope

This standard specifies the allowable


differences between the temperature of the
outside surface of the drum and that of the fill
water during the drum filling operation.

2.0 Application

2.1 Refer to the graph for the allowable


temperature requirements during the drum filling
operation and the drum filling rate limitations.

2.2 The fill water temperature shall be at


least 70o F.

2.3 Brittle Region

The drum shall be filled slowly if the


drum and fill water temperature combinations are
in the brittle region. As a guide for the maximum
drum fill rate, a single condensate pump can be
used at its normal feed rate or a boiler feed
pump at its minimum rate.

2.4 Excessive Thermal Stress Region

Drum and fill water temperature


combinations in this region will cause excessive
thermal stresses in the drum shell and therefore
are not allowed.

2.5 Unlimited Fill Rate Region

There is no maximum limitation on


the drum fill rate in this region.
