Miss you, mom! Already … So this is my new view. Here we are at the other side of
the world. Bye bye Yorkshire, welcome Perth! All four of us
are soooo tired! Even Lilly is quiet. Tomorrow, dad starts
working at his new firm. Already! Next week, school starts.
New school. New house. New neighbours. Old questions:
will they like me? Will I make friends soon? Is this move to
Australia really a good idea?
Julian So beautiful …

Blended families
A blended family is a family that has a mum, a dad, the child(ren) the mum and dad have from a previous
relationship and the child(ren) they have together. So the mum is also a stepmum. The dad is also a stepdad. Some
children are happy to be part of a blended family, some aren’t. There are no guidelines and things can be complex.

The Sunday Roast is close to the heart of the English people: it represents family and friends like
no other meal. In fact, the Sunday roast is only beaten by fish and chips as the nation’s overall
most-loved food.
Origin
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Sunday Roast originated in England as a meal to be eaten after church on Sunday. One theory
says that in the late 1700s during the industrial revolution in the United Kingdom, families would
place a cut of meat into the oven as they got ready for church. They would then add in vegetables
such as potatoes, turnips and parsnips before going to church on a Sunday morning. When they
returned from the church the dinner was all but ready. The juices from the meat and vegetables
were used to make a stock or gravy to pour on top of the dinner.
Left-overs
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Left-over food from the Sunday roast has traditionally formed the basis of meals served on
other days of the week. For example, meats might be used as sandwich fillings, roast beef may be
chopped up with leftover roasted potatoes and some additional onion and then fried in a pan with
a bit of oil and desired seasonings until somewhat crispy to make roast beef hash, lamb might be
used in the filling for a shepherd’s pie.

Humour
41 Read and discuss.
Bespreek.
Typical English humour is very dry and rather sharp. The English joke about everything, including themselves in
such a way that you sometimes don’t know whether they are serious or whether they are joking. They are also
quite good at very absurd, silly humour.
ON MY FACE
2 1
And Cheer up, Brian. You know what they say.
A Always look on the bright side of life! D Some things in life are bad,
Always look on the bright side of life They can really make you mad.
If life seems jolly rotten, Other things just make you swear and
There’s something you’ve forgotten! curse.
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance When you’re chewing on life’s gristle,
and sing, Don’t grumble, give a whistle!
When you’re feeling in the dumps, And this’ll help things turn out for the best
Don’t be silly chumps,
Just purse your lips and whistle -- that’s
the thing! 3
Always look on the bright side of life
And always look on the bright side of life
B For life is quite absurd,
Come on!
And death’s the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a
bow!
4
And always look on the bright side of life Forget about your sin -- give the audience
C Always look on the bright side of life a grin,
Come on guys, cheer up Enjoy it, it’s the last chance anyhow!
Always look on the bright side of life So always look on the bright side of death!
Always look on the bright side of life Just before you draw your terminal breath.
Worse things happen at sea you know Life’s a piece of shit,
Always look on the bright side of life When you look at it.
I mean, what have you got to lose? Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke, it’s true,
you know, you come from nothing You’ll see it’s all a show,
you’re going back to nothing Keep ’em laughing as you go.
what have you lost? Nothing! Just remember that the last laugh is on
Always look on the bright side of life you!

The number 2 represents fizz, the number 5 represents buzz. Now take turns saying a number in sequence. If
you have the numbers assigned to fizz and buzz, you need to say these words instead of the number. You also
need to say fizz or buzz for any number divisible by the original fizz and buzz numbers.

Dear Brian
I really like your Facebook page! What else do I like? I like computers, buses, families, lunches and
videos. Here are some things I do not like: classes, sisters, aunts and faxes (they make such an
awful noise). People think I am a bit strange, because I always list things. Of course, to you I am a
stranger. But I am not strange!
Best, Kurt
