Topic: Grammar – Conditional Sentences (if Clauses) (Continued from previous week)
Learning Objectives:
By the End of the lesson learners will be able to:
● LO2 – compose conditional sentences with if clauses.
*Please note: this is a continuation of the previous weeks lesson to add clarification and complete practice.

Starter Activity:
Recap/Cross-Curricular link: The teacher will ask students to re-create the table of conditionals 5 Min
on the board for review by asking for volunteers.
Learning Activities:
 Learning Objectives will be shared. 5 Min
 Writing: Make a paragraph using five conditional sentences of your choice in your 10 Min
notebook, using one, or more types of conditionals. Differentiation by Content: The
correct way to write sentences will be modeled by the teacher on the board. She will call
up working at and working towards students to give ideas. They can then copy the ones
on the board for help. E.g. If I was late, I would call and inform my office. If I informed the
office, my work would not be delayed. If my work is not delayed, it will be on time.

 Practice: Students will read and solve the exercises on page 262 of OPE.
Peer Scaffolding: The working towards students will be grouped with working beyond students
for wherever help is needed. If a sentence is problematic for many, it will be discussed aloud in
the class.
Plenary:

Starter Activity:
The students will use their dictionaries to complete the vocabulary matching exercise on OPE, 10 Min
page # 271.
Learning Activities:

● Pre-reading: The students will be instructed to pick out figurative language and 5 Min
conditional sentences in the text. They will also be asked to note and underline important
points and values in the text. (This will be clarified as important to plot, theme, character,

● LO1- read with infelction, improve student reading ability.
● LO2- identify the writer’s use of conditionals and complex sentences.
● LO3- describe how texts are crafted to shape meaning and produce particular effects.

The Phantom Tollbooth, white board, illustrations in the book.
Starter Activity:
Students will review the following criteria for reading aloud, and the teacher will model the 10 Min
desired performance.

Differentiation Task: The students who struggle with reading would be encouraged to read with
the teacher constantly guiding them and developing the patience and empathy in others to uplift
their classmates.
Practice: Teacher will ask the following questions to check understanding and comprehension of
the plot read so far:
1. What were the four gifts that Milo took with him in the mountains of Ignorance?
2. List all of the demons the friends encountered. 20 min
3. Which demon have you faced and how did you overcome it?

Starter Activity:

the main points with notations.

identify important information using the 5Ws.

Students will be divided in pairs and given time to silently read their assigned part in pairs. 5 Min

They will take turns to read aloud their parts and try to use a conversational tone. 20 Min
Differentiation by Task: The students will be given both working towards and working beyond
level parts and will be expected to show them.
Plenary:
Students will discuss the where they each think they went wrong. 10 Min
