Reading is essential for every human. Most people say they hate it or that they do not have enough
time for reading and this might be due to the fact that they have not found their favorite genre yet. Everyone
knows the importance of reading and it improves people’s literacy. But few people actually understand the
importance of reading and are aware of the huge positive benefits reading comes with. It is beneficial not
only for children, but for youngsters, adolescents, adults, and elders alike.
Reading is a gateway to learning anything about everything. It helps you discover new things and
educate yourself in any area of life you are interested in. You can find a book on just about any subject you
can imagine, dive in and start learning. Your child can learn about their interests (and even themselves)
through reading things they enjoy.

quality education by extending hands to the
learners thru the activity PROJECT:
PAHATID KA. This project aims to reach
out to learners residing in the different
barangays of our community. Teachers
together with the school heads and principal
went to Balagbag, Cahil and Aga with an
aim of helping children of each barangay to
improve their reading skills on this one-day
activity. Books were lent to the students for
them to read with the guidance of KNHS
teachers and staff. It was done on the 15th of
December, 2021.

Recalibrating Learners Skills in Reading thru Online Platform in the
midst of Pandemic
KNHS | 2021 - 2022 | READING

Reading has many benefits, but it’s a skill that

even a lot of adults don’t use enough. Apart from the
necessity of reading to get by in today’s world, let’s
look at some other benefits of reading and how these
can contribute positively to your child’s development.
As reading is one of the skills needed to be
calibrated in our learners, English teachers together with
the advisers make it a task to reach out to learners with
the goal of helping them improve their reading and
comprehension. One platform they used is via google
meet as the modality in schools nowadays is distance
learning.
Learners with available resources like smart
phones and stable internet connection participated in the
said activity. A passage is to be read by the learners and
followed with a 10 item questionnaires. A reading tool
is prepared by the teacher to see the level of the learners
reading and comprehension skills.
Through this activity, the teachers were able to
track the learners reading and comprehension skills.
Such interventions were given depending on the result
of the reading assessment.
