TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGIES


 Teacher plays the A-Z of jobs. Pupils work with talk partner(s).
 Teacher gives each pair a piece of paper.
 Teacher asks them to write the alphabet down the left hand margin.
PRE-LESSON
 Teacher set a time limit and asks pupils to write one profession for every letter of the alphabet (i.e. A -
actor, B - builder…Z- zoologist).
 Pupils score a point for every correct answer but some letters are quite tricky.

 Teacher asks pupils to look at the two pictures and tell you what they show (a delivery boy, a shop assistant
in a clothes shop).
 Teacher drawspupils’ attention to the list of ideas they need to take into consideration when comparing
and contrasting the two pictures and check understanding.
 Teacher asks pupils to read through the words/ phrases in the box and check understanding.
 Teacher asks pupils to do the activity in pairs and go round the class helping them when necessary.
 Teacher randomly picks some pairs to report their answers to the class.

 Teacher asks pupils the questions and initiates a short discussion.
 Teacher collect responses to Activities A and B and have a short class discussion about what pupils consider
their ideal job.
 Teacher writes elicit names of different jobs on the board and ask what sort of characteristics a person
would need to do the job and what sort of skills or qualifications.

 Teacher asks pupils to write a short paragraph describing their ideal job and why they think it is perfect for
them.
