Unang Markahan – Modyul 7:
Naisasagawa ang mga Hakbang ng
CBDRRM Plan
kaalamang malilikom mo bilang mag-aaral.

suliraning pangkapaligiran? Pinakamahalagang layunin ng Philippine
National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Framework (PDRRMF)
ay ang pagbuo ng disaster-resilient na mga pamayanan. Ibig sabihin, ang
lahat ng mga pagpaplano, pagtataya, at paghahandang nakapaloob sa
disaster management plan ay patungo sa pagbuo ng isang pamayanang
handa at matatag sa pagharap sa mga hamong pangkapaligiran. Malaki
ang posibilidad na maging disaster-resilient ang mga pamayanan kung
maayos na maisasagawa ang Community-Based Disaster and Risk
Management Approach.

What’s In
In the previous module you were able to learn about the use of implicit and
explicit signals as well as the use of verbal and non-verbal phrases made by the
speaker to highlight important points in a discourse.
This time you will deal with direct and indirect signals and dig deeper into
their usage as you study further the significance of direct and indirect signals and
how to point them out easily in any written text.
Identifying direct and indirect signals in the paragraph or any written texts
may sometimes be confusing at first encounter. This module will enable you to
further comprehend and master the rules in the use of direct and indirect signals
whether in dialogues and written outputs as well as easily point out the mere
differences between them and their significance to our communication process.
Reporting verbs such as say, tell and ask are used. The word that is also
used to introduce the words being reported. Here, you are just like a news
reporter reporting what you hear or read from another source. Task 2: Let’s
Sing
Direction. Sing the song from the Greatest Showman. Then in 5 sentences, write
what the I in the song is trying to tell the audience.
This Is Me
I am not a stranger to the dark
Hide away, they say
'Cause we don't want your broken parts
I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars
Run away, they say
No one'll love you as you are
But I won't let them break me down to dust
I know that there's a place for us For we
are glorious
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown 'em out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out 'cause here I come
What Is It
D. When quotation is put in indirect signal, care must be taken to verify that
verb tenses reflect the change in temporal context, meaning the time the
action takes place. Hence a change in tense is done here:
Direct signal: She said, "I will be on time." Indirect
discourse: She said she would be on time.
Direct discourse: When he called he said, "I am at the airport"
Indirect discourse: When he called he said he was at the
airport.
What’s More
Task 3: Identifying Direct Quotations
Directions: The following are paragraphs taken from the story “Arachne” as retold
by Olivia Coolidge. Analyze each paragraph and in your activity notebook, copy all
sentences with direct signals. Make sure to never miss any dialogue and
conversation from the text.
1.- 2.
20 DO_Q1_Araling Panlipunan 10_ Modyul 7
At last Arachne's fame became so great that people used to come from far
and wide to watch her working. Even the graceful nymphs would steal in from
stream or forest and peep shyly through the dark doorway, watching in wonder
the white arms of Arachne as she stood at the loom and threw the shuttle from
hand to hand between the hanging threads, or drew out the long wool, fine as a
hair, from the distaff as she sat spinning. "Surely Athena herself must have
taught her," people would murmur to one another. "Who else could know the
secret of such marvelous skill?"
3.- 4.
One day when Arachne turned round with such words, an old woman
answered her, a gray old woman, bent and very poor, who stood leaning on a staff
and peering at Arachne amid the crowd of onlookers. "Reckless girl," she said,
"how dare you claim to be equal to the immortal gods themselves? I am an old
woman and have seen much. Take my advice and ask pardon of Athena for your
words. Rest content with your fame of being the best spinner and weaver that
mortal eyes have ever beheld."
5.- 6.
"Stupid old woman," said Arachne indignantly, "Who gave you a right to
speak in this way to me?” It is easy to see that you were never good for anything
in your day, or you would not come here in poverty and rags to gaze at my skill. If
Athena resents my words, let her answer them herself. I have challenged her to a
contest, but she, of course, will not come. It is easy for the gods to avoid matching
their skill with that of men.
7.- 10.
Arachne stood there a moment, struggling with anger, fear, and pride. "I will
not live under this insult," she cried, and seizing a rope from the wall, she made a
noose and would have hanged herself. The goddess touched the rope and touched
the maiden. "Live on, wicked girl," she said. "Live on and spin, both you and your
descendants. When men look at you they may remember that it is not wise to
strive with Athena." At that the body of Arachne shriveled up; and her legs grew
tiny, spindly, and distortedly. There before the eyes of the spectators hung a little
dusty brown spider on a slender thread.
Directions: In your answer sheet, copy each sentence and convert it to Indirect
Speech following the given rules.
Example: “I had pancakes for breakfast,” announced Kathleen.
Kathleen announced that she had pancakes for breakfast.
Direction: In your answer sheet, copy what is written below and fill the blanks to

______________________ is used to report what has been said, so we
normally change the tense of the words spoken. We use reporting verbs like

______, tell, 8 ________, and we may use the word 9________ to introduce the
reported words. It usually denotes to convey a report of something that was said
or written rather than the exact words that were spoken or written. Indirect signal
entails certain changes.
To further understand how indirect signals work here are some tips you have to
remember:

When the verb in the reported discourse is conjugated, is it generally preceded

What’s In
In the past lesson, you have learned the three types of tectonic
boundaries: convergent, where plates move into one another; divergent,
where plates move apart; and transform, where plates move sideways in
relation to each other. Due to these movements, plates move at a rate of
one to two inches (three to five centimeters) per year.
What’s New
Plate Movements
Plates at our planet's surface move because of the intense heat in the
Earth's core that causes molten rock in the mantle layer to move. It moves in

a pattern called a convection cell that forms when warm material rises, cools,
and eventually sinks down. As the cooled material sinks down, it is warmed
and then it rises again.

Activity 2
Instruction : Connect the dots to trace the faults where the plate movement
occurs, and describe what is being formed after.
What’s More
Due to the extreme temperatures inside the earth, hot magma rises from
the mantle at mid-ocean ridges, thus pushing the plates apart. As a result,
Activity 3
Instruction : In a one whole sheet of bond paper, draw the plate movements
as shown in the figure from the previous page. Check your work
