Week 1+2: Singular and plural nouns
I. Singular nouns

- Dùng a/an trước danh từ số ít (1 thứ, 1 đồ vật, 1 con vật, 1 người)

+ An: Trước danh từ bắt đầu bằng nguyên âm (được thể hiện bởi các chữ
cái: u, e, o, a, i): An umbrella, an ostrich …
+ A: Trước danh từ bắt đầu bằng phụ âm (các chữ cái còn lại): a boy, a kite,
a bus…

Chú ý: a uniform, an hour

III. Plurals
1. Thêm “s” vào sau hầu hết các danh từ để biến danh từ thành số nhiều
Ví dụ:
a table: 1 cái bàn -> two tables: 2 cái bàn
a pen: 1 cái bút -> three pens: 3 cái bút
2. Thêm “es” vào các danh từ khi danh từ kết thúc bằng: o, s, ss, ch, x, sh
Mẹo: Ông Sáu sung sướng chạy xe Sh
Ví dụ:
a tomato -> two tomatoes
a bus -> three buses
Ngoại lệ: piano -> pianos, radio -> radios, igloo -> igloos (ngôi nhà
băng), photo -> photos, zoo -> zoos

3. Khi danh từ kết thúc bằng -y

Danh từ kết thúc là 1 phụ âm + y => ies

VD: baby => babies, lady => ladies

Danh từ kết thúc là 1 nguyên âm + y => s

VD: toy => toys, day => days.

4. Khi danh từ kết thúc bằng f/fe
Danh từ kết thúc là f, fe => ves
(VD: leaf => leaves, wife => wives)

Ngoại lệ: roof => roofs (mái nhà), proof => proofs (bằng chứng),
cliff -> cliffs (vách đá), giraffe -> giraffes (hươu cao cổ)
