Establish the Context and Purpose of the Assessment:

- The Assessor must familiarize SELF with the qualification or unit of competencies
- Ensure that the assessment site complies with the relevant occupational health and safety requirements
- Ensure that the assessment resources are available
- The Assessor must ensure the Tools, Equipment and Facilities are ready and available in the assessment
site before the assessment start
- A checklist of tools, equipment and facilities must be on hand to help the Assessor
- The Checklist of Tools, Equipment and Facilities is included in the assessors guide.

LESSON 2:
Plan and Prepare the Evidence Gathering Process
- The assessor shall receive assessment package composed of the ff:
o 1 copy of assessors guide
o Specific instruction to the candidate
o CARS – Competency Assessment Result Summary
o Written report
o Written test
o Answer sheets
o Rating Sheets

So This is an indication that you know and can perform all the units of competencies for this qualification

So today I am going to administer competency assessment for Shielded Metal Arc Welding NCII (SMAW)
THE PURPOSE of this COMPETENCY assessment is to determine your level of competency for SMAW

IN SMAW , it is composed of 3 competencies – BASIC, COMMON, CORE competencies. And for our core
competencies we have only one core and that is Weld carbon Steel Plate and Pipes using SMAW.

THE TEST that you need to perform today is… all about demonstration, show me your best performance in
welding carbon steel pipes in 2G and 5G/6G positions to its acceptable standards following the approved WPS
(welding procedure specification)

And I’ll be collecting evidences through DEMONSTRATION & ORAL QUESTIONING based on your performance.
So this assessment methods will help me ensure your UNDERPINNING KNOWLEDEGE & SKILLS for this
Qualification.

 There will be two assessment result – named COMPETENT & NOT YET COMPETENT.
o IF found to be COMPETENT, you can get your NC after 5 working days at the TESDA Office. Just
bring with you your Competency Assessment Result Summary (CARS), your passport size picture
with collar and white background and P50 for processing fee
o IF you found to be NOT YET COMPETENT, DON’T WORRY, you are STILL qualified for re-
assessment. Just go to the nearest assessment center and schedule your reassessment anytime.
o IF you are not satisfied with the assessment result, you may write a letter of appeal addressed to
the TESDA Provincial Director

For your PERSONNAL NEEDS,

LAVATORY is located at the end of the hallway
CANTEEN is located at the ANNEX B building
However, during the assessment you are no longer allowed to leave the premises of the assessment area

AND If you have any QUESTIONS/DIFFICULTY in understanding the GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS, Please don’t hesitate

put it in your bag.

we can give you first-aid and when the NEED arise, please remember that our FIRST-AID KITs are always located
both ends of every floor – feel free to use it if needed.

 Based from your performances and evidences that I’ve gathered, you are good on the
 penetration process
 performed well in the root pass
 However you are lacking on
 Maintaining clean root pass
 I guess your nervous coz your passes are not that aligned
 And your final capping is way out of its WPS and standards
o For that, I am sorry to tell you, that you were not able to perform within the minimum standard
requirement of this qualification, Thus, your NOT YET COMPETENT for this Qualification
o You have to review/practice the activities related to the competency requirements of the
qualification.
o Don’t worry, you are still qualified for assessment on the part of the activity that you were found
to be not competent. You just need to follow instructions and of course its standards. That’s all
