호랑이와 곶감 KOREAN STORY

옛날에 큰 호랑이는 한 마리가 숲 속에서 살았다. 어느 날 호랑이는

배가 고파서 마을으로 갔다. 마을 옆으로 밭에서 소 한 마리가 서
있었다. 호랑이는 소를 발견했다. 호랑이는 소를 먹고 싶은데 갑자기
시끄러운 아기 울음소리를 들었다. 밭 옆에 집으로 아기가 울고 있었다.
호랑이는 집으로 다가갔다. ‘아기가 맛있을 것 같아.’ 호랑이는
생각했다.

ENGLISH

Once upon a time a large tiger lived in a forest. One day, the tiger was hungry, so he
went to a village. A cow stood in a field next to the village. The tiger discovered the
cow. The tiger wanted to eat the cow but suddenly he heard a loud baby’s cry. There
was a baby crying in the house next to the field. The tiger went closer to the house.
‘A baby would be delicious.’ The tiger thought.

엄마가 아기에게 말했다. "아기야, 울음을 그치거라. 울음을 계속하면
호랑이가 오고 너를 잡아먹을 거야." 하지만, 아기는 시끄러운 울음을
그치지 않았다. ‘이 아기가 울음 그치지 않는걸 보니 나를 무섭지
않아하는군.’ 호랑이는 생각했다. 엄마가 아기에게 다시 말했다. "
아기야, 울음을 그치면 곶감을 줄께." 그때 아기는 울음을 그쳤다.
호랑이는 깜짝 놀랐다

ENGLISH
The mother spoke to the baby. "Baby, stop crying. If you continue to cry, a tiger will
come and eat you." But the baby didn’t stop crying loudly. ‘This baby didn’t stop
crying so it is not afraid of me.’ The tiger thought. The mother spoke to the baby
again. "Baby, I will give you a dried persimmon if you stop crying." Then the baby
stopped crying. The tiger was really surprised.

곶감을 뭐지? 무섭고 크게 할게 분명해.’ 호랑이는 생각했다. ‘곶감을
피해야. 그렇지 않으면 나는 죽을 것 같아.’ 그때 호랑이가 벽에 어두운
그림자를 봤다. ‘곶감!’ 호랑이는 으르렁거렸다. 호랑이는 너무
무서워서 숲 속에 뛰어갔다. 그 그림자는 곶감의 그림자가 아니었다. 그
대신에 도둑의 것이었다. 도둑은 호랑이 으르렁거린 것을 들으면 깜작
놀랍고 무서워서 도둑의 집으로 뛰어갔다.

ENGLISH
 What is a dried persimmon? It must be scary and big.’ The tiger thought. ‘I have to
avoid the dried persimmon. If not, I might die.’ Then the tiger saw a dark shadow on
the wall. ‘Dried persimmon!’ The tiger growled. The tiger was very scared, so he ran
away into the forest. That shadow was not a dried persimmon. Instead, it was a thief.
When the thief heard the tiger growl, he was very surprised and scared, and so he
ran away home.
