Social Arts 2 (SOAR 2)

Assignment no. 1
Self-presentation
Tell something about yourself and  some expectations from the course

Good day! My name is Albert Bryan Dela Cruz, but you can call me Albert
instead. I am 18 years old, currently living here at Baliwag, Bulacan, and a Medical
Technology freshman here at Baliuag University.

If I were to describe myself, I can say that I am deeply passionate about doing the things
that I am interested in and I always want to discover new possibilities as it excites and
drives me to get the best out of them. I am also fascinated by unusual ideas that most
people may find weird. As a student, I can say that I am an approachable person. As the
president of the block, I am trusted to relay the messages and announcements to my block
mates and I also try to help them by answering their questions whenever I can. Lastly, I
believe, as a student, that we need to enjoy the experience and must not rush things as we
must learn everything by process slowly and surely.

For this course, Social Arts 2, I expect to learn the values needed to become a better
person, not just as a student of Baliuag University but also as a citizen of this province. I
hope that Social Arts 2 could be a great key for everyone so that we, the students, would
develop as responsible citizens that always uphold integrity in all that we are doing. I am
expecting to enjoy the sessions that we will have in four weeks and have meaningful
discussions throughout that will help everyone to reflect and develop by themselves.

Assignment no. 2
To Baliuag University and Beyond
Identify one prominent person and one famous place in Bulacan or Baliwag which you
know.

 Antonio Buenaventura
> A musician from Baliuag, Bulacan, Buenaventura vigorously pursued a musical
career that spanned seven years. During that time, he committed himself to the
advancement of the Philippine music frontier. In 1935, he joined Francisca Reyes Aquino
to research folk songs and dances that led to its popularization. Received the title of
National Artist for Music in 1988, he composed songs, compositions, for solo
instruments as well as symphonic and orchestral works and was also a conductor and
restored the Philippine Army Band to its former prestige.

 Barasoain Church
> The Barasoain Church was originally founded by Augustinian missionaries and
built for Roman Catholic masses in Malolos, Bulacan. It was well-known for its intricate
architecture and adornments. However, it was burned down at the height of the Philippine
Revolution in the 1800s. Throughout the years, it became a venue for some of the notable
events in Philippine history, which are the First Philippine Congress, the drafting of the
Malolos Constitution, and the inauguration of General Emilio Aguinaldo and President
Joseph Estrada as presidents of the republic at their terms.

Assignment no. 4
One Town, One Product
What products, customs, and/or traditions have you experienced so far in Baliwag?

It is true that Baliwag is home to multiple products and traditions that are distinct
and different from others. Among the traditions, I had already experienced is the Lenten
procession which we all know is the longest in the Phillippines. The different carrozas are
very detailed and designed beautifully. I also experienced panuluyan, misa de gallo or
simbang gabi, salubong, and pagbasa ng pasyon. Other than that, Baliwag's different
festivals and programs are truly fun and exciting to see and watch like Pasko sa Kalye,
Christmas Tree Lighting, and the Buntal Hat Festival programs. It can be seen in our
traditions that we are energetic and joyous people.

Other the other hand, Baliwag's products are also one of a kind. The distinct
flavors of each food product and the intricacy of the things Baliwagenyos sell make these
products stand out. Aside from our local buntal hat, I also tried different products here
like chicharon, pastillas, okoy, cornick, butong pakwan, our local street food like fishball,
kwek-kwek, and chichaw, and our pride every Christmas which are the bibingka and puto
bumbong. These say a lot to our palate, as these appeal to our tastebuds and it is also
affordable.

commotion or get your car impounded.

Assignment no. 6

1. Explain/differentiate defensive driving from defensive walking.

 Defensive driving is a practice of drivers who consciously reduce the dangers
associated with driving. These techniques reduce the chances of road collision or
incident and can even save costs related to vehicle maintenance and fuel
consumption, by driving smoothly and steadily. On the other hand, defensive
walking is a technique that asks the pedestrian to take charge of their own safety
by being aware of the surroundings and anticipating the actions of those around
them. It also helps in anticipating or even preventing different pedestrian
accidents.

2. Cite more examples of traffic signs and have them presented to the class.

3. Enumerate and explain some helpful tips for road safety.

 Regularly check your car's condition. Make it an habit to ensure that your car
is road-worthy. Remember BLOWBAGETS whenever you will travel.
 Always put a seat belt on. Whenever you are travelling, always put your seat
belt on, as it is an effective way to protect you and your passengers.
 Always use signals when turning. Do have some consideration for others
behind you by letting them know your next move.
 Don’t text and drive. This is an obvious mistake for many drivers and it could
lead to very fatal consequences.
 Do not drive when you are under the influence of alcohol or when you are
feeling drowsy.
 Respect pedestrian lanes. Pedestrians have their own specialized lanes to cross
and stopping for them will not stop you from arriving at your destination.

Assignment no. 7
Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow
Page 15 of the module

1. DRT Highway

Figure 1. A portion of DRT Highway along Brgy. Tarcan

The Doña Remedios Trinidad Highway in Baliwag is one of the notorious sites
for some road collisions and various accidents that mostly involve motorcycles and cars
that usually drive past the speed limit. Given the large volume of vehicles that use the
highway for traveling, it is a fact that the highway becomes one of the accident-prone
areas of Baliwag.

The DRT Highway also houses various buildings, private business

establishments, warehouses, and activity centers where commuters flock in and larger
vehicles like wheeler trucks are present. Due to the congestion in the highway, pedestrian
accidents are also recorded along the highway.
2. Baliwag Flyover

Figure 2. The Baliwag Flyover

Located at the center of BS Aquino Avenue that separates the barangays of

Tangos and Bagong Nayon, the Baliwag Flyover is, in fact, an accident-prone area.
Unlike local roads and highways, you cannot overtake in flyovers. This simple mistake of
drivers and riders often lead to a regretful consequence. A flyover is considered a
blindspot, since its projectile shape disable riders to see the vehicles coming from the
other side of the road. That instance leads to various road clashes which sometimes lead
to death.

Assignment no. 8
Unboxing and Packaging the Self

 Explain or elaborate what is self-esteem.

As young adults, it is important for us to develop a great and effective personality.
These different personalities affect our interpersonal relationships as personality affects
the way how people perceive us since it how our inner self is manifested onto others. In
order for us to develop or improve our own personalities, therefore, it is important for us
to understand the level of our own self-esteem.

Self-esteem is defined as the way how we value and perceive ourselves. It impacts
a person’s decision-making, peer relationships, emotional health, and overall well-being.
It also influences motivation as people with positive sense of self understand their
potential and may feel inspired to conquer new challenges. People with healthy self-
esteem have a firm understanding of their own skills, are able to maintain harmonious
relationships, have realistic expectations of themselves, and are able to understand their
own needs.

There are many ways for you to be able to build or improve your self-esteem. One
best example of these ways is using or engaging to positive self-talk. Try and practice
reciting different positive affirmations to yourself such as “I deserve happiness,” “I am
worthy to be loved,” “I won’t give up,” and others. Other ways to address your problems
in your self-esteem are as follows: practicing self-compassion, highlighting your
achievements, and even challenging negative thinking patterns.

 Identify some general grooming practices.

Aside from attitudes and values, self-esteem could also depend on your
appearance. It is always advised that we must have a good and presentable appearance
and as well, maintain and practice proper personal hygiene. Remember, the way how you
take care of your body and appearance reflects on how you feel about yourself, how other
people perceive you, and how healthy you are as well.

The following are some examples of proper personal grooming practices:

1. Taking bath regularly
a) Using soap to clean your body
b) Applying shampoo and hair conditioner
2. Taking care of your hair
a) Regular combing and cleaning
b) Maintaining regular haircuts
3. Applying moisturizers, exfoliants, and/or cosmetics in the skin
4. Brushing and flossing of teeth at least twice a day

6. Applying deodorants and/or perfume
7. Shaving unnecessary hairs
8. Regular washing of hands

> If I were to be asked about the influencers of my personality, I would say that
aside from my family and friends, it would be the KPop groups that I idolize like
SEVENTEEN and THE BOYZ. Each of the members of these boy groups are able to
dress up nicely, communicate properly and effectively without any hesitation, and can
carry themselves in different stages with different and various audiences. The members
of these boy groups that I idolize are very close to one another and they still show the
much-needed respect to one another. But, what I like about them the most is that despite
having different personalities (e.g. funny, enthusiastic, nosy, talkative, etc.) that I, myself,
can relate and connect, it then became a key for them to glue up and establish a good
interpersonal relationship. It became essential to each of the members that they must be
open to one another and express their feelings and thoughts so that their relationship
becomes more manageable and healthy.
