Statement Of Purpose

My Name is Humza Gul Abbasi and I intend to apply for The Master’s program at the
Birmingham City University, UK. I have completed my Bachelor’s Degree BS(CS) from the
University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi, Pakistan with a 2.66 CGPA in August 2017.
Shortly After that, I was provided with an opportunity to work as a lecturer at Fazaia
College Lower Topa, Murree where I worked till April 2019.

When I decided to pursue my Master’s Degree I searched for different universities in the
UK. After thorough research, I chose Birmingham City University because of a select few
elements, a big diverse university with roughly 25000 students. Birmingham City university
is a well-reputed university in the UK and around the world. It is in the top 30 universities
when it comes to spending on facilities which tells me how student-oriented university it is.
As a student, these are very promising factors for me. All of these elements helped me
decide on applying to Birmingham City University.

I am currently applying for the Master’s program in Project Management for September
intake 2021. The reason behind it is because I want to get international exposure and
interacting with people around the world with different backgrounds and different thought
processes will help me grow as a person and broaden my horizon. Initially, When I decided
to pursue my education abroad, few countries crossed my mind such as Australia, Germany
and turkey. Granted that they have good institutions, but when I think about these countries
and education, I cannot name a university or college off the top of my head. Which led me
to believe that they may not be as popular or globally recognized. On the other hand, when
we talk about UK. We can easily name some of the best institutes in the world. Which
helped me make my decision and have confidence in that decision on why I want to pursue
my education in the UK. The quality of education and the quality of life with such a rich
history I believe that it will turn out to be the best opportunity for me as a person and as a
student. Receiving education from one of the highly reputed institutions will be a life-
changer for me.

During my undergraduate course, I was able to hone my communication skills and gather
extensive knowledge on a variety of subjects that I studied which apart from Computer
Science also included Organizational Behavior and Marketing. And my experience as a
freelancer helped me become a team player and improved my leadership skills, As I worked
as an IT consultant during the time frame ( 2020-2021). Picking up Project Management in a
University in the UK where there are a lot of Reputed and High ranking institutes will prove
to be a very good opportunity because not only do students receive a quality education, It is
very affordable as well.

As I worked as an IT Consultant I had the opportunity to work alongside my team on some

projects and I was fascinated by the idea of leading a team and making something happen in
a given time frame and seeing a mere idea become a reality. It pushed me to pursue this
course and want to learn more about project management. This course has 7 modules and
studying each module will prepare me for the obstacles in the future, I will have the skills I
need for the professional world. These are as follows:
Research Method
During this module, I will learn all the fundamental skills needed to lay the foundation for
my academic research skills.

Resource Management
During this module, I will learn how to manage my resources better. How to deploy those
resources and help profit the organizations.

Procurement and Contract Law

During this module, I will learn the importance of purchasing and procurement. And how to
manage these very inputs and result in profits.

International Operations and Logistics

During this Module, I will learn how important evaluation of supply chain management is
and how is it linked to the marketplace, the distribution networks and the manufacturing
process.

Principles of Project Management

During this module I will learn how applying knowledge, methods, processes, skills and
experiences will help achieve and complete our projects.

International Business and Marketing

During this module, I will learn how the current market works. I will cross-check my
research methods with everyday marketing strategies and global developments. This module
will help me grow aware of the situations going on around the world and how the market
works.

Individual Masters Project

Masters Project is an in-depth project of what I learned over 12 months. Following my
supervisor, I will be selecting a topic of my choice which will be converted into a practical
outcome.

I wholeheartedly believe that receiving an education from a University in the UK will

provide me with the push I need and groom me into a better human. As the UK is home to
some of the top organizations related to project management in the world, such as Scoro,
Arup and Atkins. And to be able to learn from one of the best institutes during my education
and continuing to learn even after graduating. There is nothing more fulfilling.

For my plans after graduating, I want to utilize the skills that I learned in the UK and
Birmingham City University. I want to come back to Pakistan and use these skills to
contribute to society if I got the chance. There are a lot of reputed companies in Pakistan
related to project management such as Nespak, Descon and Fatima group. I want to utilize
the skills I learned from my education abroad. I will apply for a management position in
these companies where my expected salary would be PKR 230000/. I am hopeful and I am
confident in my ability to learn, I thank you for your consideration and I am looking forward
to joining this program because it will add to my skills and help me with the future that lies
ahead.
