To describe a procedure for installing the C.1.0 software or hardware, or both, on an EnVisor
system.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
These instructions describe the procedure for installing the C.1.0 software, or the C.1.0 hardware, or both, on an
EnVisor system that has A.1.2, B.0.2, C.0.1, or C.0.2 software. For more information about software level C.1.0,
refer to New Product Bulletin NPB-318 and FCO79500074.

Caution: In order to perform sections in this procedure, access to the Service tool is required. Access is
granted after entering a special password that can be obtained from the Online Service Tool
(for example: InCenter). Be sure you know what the password is before beginning the
procedure.

Caution: Follow established anti-static procedures during the applicable sections in this procedure.
Failure to do so will damage static sensitive devices.

The software installation consists of installing the C.1.0 software from a Compact Disk (CD) to the hard drive. In
addition, the OS.04 and COTS.15 will be installed from separate CDs.
The C.1.0 hardware includes a new CRT monitor, a USB connector, and an Explora transducer connector. The
monitor upgrade consists of replacing the existing monitor with a new one. The USB upgrade consists of adding
the connector to the PC and installing the connecting cable. The Explora upgrade consists of adding the connector
to the e-Box. Other transducer connectors may need to be relocated because the Explora connector must be
located at the top of the connector section.

Caution: If the Explora connector upgrade is being installed and the system already has four transducer
connectors, the Explora connector will replace an existing connector. Confer with our
Customer to determine which connector to replace.

The estimated time to complete the upgrade is as follows (estimated times do not include the time required for
testing the system):
• Install software: 45 minutes
• Replace monitor: 20 minutes
• Install USB connector: 30 minutes
• Install Explora connector: 20 minutes (may require additional time if other transducer connectors need to be
moved)

Appendix A, Setting the System’s BIOS
In this procedure, keys on the system's control panel that are used for entering a function are shown in bold text
and are enclosed in arrows < >. For example: <Set>. On-screen annotations are shown in bold text and are
enclosed in quotation marks " ". For example: "Install". Data to be entered using the keyboard or control panel
are shown in bold text and are enclosed in brackets { }. For example: {user}. When instructed to type words, do
not type the brackets.
To ensure a safe installation, be sure to read and understand all Notes, Cautions, and Warnings within this
document.

2.0 VERIFYING THE INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS


2.1 Verify that you have the following:
• C.1.0 software upgrade kit, or one or more hardware upgrade kit
• Password for accessing the Service tool
• Permanent ink pen for writing on a floppy disk
• EnVisor Service Manual
• For installing the C.1.0 hardware: the FSE tool kit
2.2 Use the parts list that accompanies the ki, to verify that any available kit is complete.

3.0 PREPARING FOR THE UPGRADE


3.1 Turn the system on, observe the screen to determine what the current software level is, and allow it to boot up to
the ultrasound display. Verify that the software level is one of the following:
• A.1.2
• B.0.2
• C.0.1
• C.0.2
• C.1 (pre-release systems)
3.2 Do one of the following:
• If the software level is one of the above, proceed to Step 3.3.
• If the software level is not one of the above, do not proceed further. The software must be one of those levels
before installing this upgrade.
3.3 Verify all system functions, and if there is a problem, troubleshoot as required. Do not proceed with the upgrade
until the system has no problems.
3.4 Remove any disk from the CD drive, floppy disk drive, and MO drive.

4.0 BACKING UP THE SYSTEM INFORMATION

Caution: The software installation program automatically deletes all data from the hard drive during the
upgrade process. Do not skip the following steps.

4.1 Backing up the User Presets.

Note: The backup process backs up any User Presets, the system settings, the printer and VCR settings,
and the installed options.

4.1.1 Insert the blank, formatted, floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.
4.1.2 Press <Setup>; the “Setup” window is displayed on-screen.
4.1.3 Place the cursor on the “Floppy Disk” tab and then press < ↵ Enter>.
4.1.4 Place the cursor on “Backup” and then press < ↵ Enter>; the “Backup Settings” window is displayed on-
screen.
4.1.5 Do one of the following:
• If either of the “Presets:” box shows user presets, place the cursor on “Select All”, press < ↵ Enter>, and then
proceed to Step 4.1.6.
• If either of the “Presets:” box does not show user presets (it is blank), proceed to Step 4.1.6.
4.1.6 Place the cursor on “Start” and then press < ↵ Enter>; the “All system settings will be saved to media except
for the ‘DNS Suffixes’. You may want to write these down by hand.” message appears on-screen.
Note: The DNS Suffixes will be saved in Step 4.4.
4.1.7 Place the cursor on “OK” and then press < ↵ Enter>; the backup process begins. The time required for
completing the process varies and depends on the size of the files being backed up.
4.1.8 When the process is complete, the “Backup Settings” window disappears; place the cursor on “Close” and then
press < ↵ Enter> to close the “Setup” window.
4.1.9 Eject the floppy disk from the floppy disk drive and write the following information on it:
• “EnVisor User Presets Backup”
• The system’s serial number
• The current date
• Your name
4.2 If our customer has images stored on the hard drive, ask them if they want to save any or all of these images
before performing the upgrade. If they want to save the images, have them save the images they want to keep,
before you begin the upgrade.

Note: The images can be saved to any available removable media or to a DICOM device, dependent on
what options are installed on the system. If our customer wants to save the images, they must
provide the required media.

4.3 Press <Setup>; the “Setup” window is displayed on-screen.


4.4 Do one of the following:
• If the current software level is A.1.2 or B.0.2, proceed to Step 4.5.
• If the current software level is C.0.1, C.0.2, or C.1, skip to Step 4.6.
Note: A.1.2 and B.0.2 software use different peripherals setups, which cannot be migrated to the system
after the C.1.0 upgrade.

4.5 Saving the system's network settings.


4.5.1 Place the cursor on the “System” tab and then press < ↵ Enter>.
4.5.2 Place the cursor on the “DICOM. . .” button and then press < ↵ Enter>; the “DICOM Setup” window is displayed.
Write all of the information shown on this window.
4.5.3 Place the cursor on the “Diagnostics” tab and then press < ↵ Enter> to display the Diagnostics buttons. Use the
buttons on this window to perform any required DICOM diagnostics.
4.5.4 Place the cursor on "OK" and then press < ↵ Enter> to close the “DICOM Setup” window.
4.5.5 Place the cursor on the “Service” tab and then press < ↵ Enter>.
4.5.6 Place the cursor on the “Network settings ...” button and then press < ↵ Enter>; the “Network Settings”
window is displayed.
4.5.7 Place the cursor on the “TCP/IP Properties” button and then press < ↵ Enter>; the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Properties” window is displayed. Write all of the information shown on this window.
4.5.8 Place the cursor on “OK” and then press < ↵ Enter> to close the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties”
window.
4.5.9 Place the cursor on each of the following buttons and write all of the information displayed in the “Information
window:” for each button:
• “ipconfig”
• “ipconfig /all”
• “ipconfig /release”
• “ipconfig /renew”
4.5.10 Place the cursor on “Close” and then press < ↵ Enter> to close the “Network Settings” window.
4.6 Do one of the following:
• If the system is connected to a network, proceed to Step 4.7.
• If the system is not connected to a network, skip to Step 4.8.
4.7 Saving the system's network settings.
4.7.1 Press <Setup>; the “Setup” window is displayed on-screen.
4.7.2 Place the cursor on the “System” tab and then press < ↵ Enter>.
4.7.3 Place the cursor on the “DICOM. . .” button and then press < ↵ Enter>; the “DICOM Setup” window is displayed.
4.7.4 Place the cursor on the “This System” tab and then press < ↵ Enter>.
4.7.6 Write all of the information shown on this window.
4.7.7 Place the cursor on "OK" and then press < ↵ Enter> to close the “DICOM Setup” window.
4.7.8 Place the cursor on “Close” and then press < ↵ Enter> to close the “Setup” window.
4.8 Power off each OEM and disconnect the USB cable from each OEM.
4.9 Do one of the following:
• If one or more C.1.0 hardware upgrades are being installed, power off the system and proceed to Section
5.0.
• If a C.1.0 hardware upgrade is not being installed, skip to Section 6.0.

5.0 INSTALLING THE HARDWARE


5.1 Set the brakes to prevent the system from moving.
5.2 Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the system.

5.3 Do one of the following:


• If the monitor is being replaced, proceed to Step 5.4.
• If the USB connector is being installed, skip to Step 5.5.
• If the Explora connector is being installed, skip to Step
5.6.
5.4 Replacing the monitor.
5.4.1 Disconnect the video cable, microphone cable, and the power
cord from the monitor.
5.4.2 Press up on the latch handle under the front edge of the
monitor and pull the monitor forward until it stops; see Figure
5.1. Latch

WARNING
The monitor is awkward and heavy. Use proper lifting
techniques to prevent personal injury.

5.4.3 Tilt up the front of the monitor and lift the monitor off the Figure 5.1

5.4.4 Place the new monitor on the twivel and latch it in place.
5.4.5 Connect the new microphone cable to the system’s
microphone cable and plug it into the connector shown in
Figure 5.2.
5.4.6 Connect the power cord to the monitor and secure it in place Microphone

cables as shown in Figure 5.4.

Note: Failure to arrange the cables as shown in


Figure 5.4 will prevent the cable cover from
fitting correctly.

5.4.7 Install the cable cover; see Figure 5.5.


5.4.8 Do one of the following: Cable cover
• If the USB connector is being installed, proceed to Step
5.5.
• If the USB connector is not being installed, skip to Step
5.5.20.
5.5 Installing the USB connector.

5.5.1 Raise the control panel to its highest position.


5.5.2 Open the system’s rear door on the PC side.
5.5.3 Remove the three screws securing the left side cover, remove
the cover, and set it aside; see Figure 5.6.
5.5.4 Loosen the two thumbscrews securing the PC cover, remove
the cover, and set it aside; see Figure 5.7.

5.5.5 Loosen, but DO NOT REMOVE, the three screws shown in


Figure 5.8. These three screws secure the PC to the cart and
are identified with cut-out arrows on the PC frame.
5.5.6 Gently pull the back of the PC away from the cart slightly and
then pull the front of the PC away slightly.
5.5.7 Lift the four tabs on the PC’s front cover, remove the cover,
and set it aside; see Figure 5.9.
5.5.8 Remove the blanking plate from the PC’s front; see Figure
5.10.
5.5.9 Remove the drive slides from the side of the PC and attach Screws
them to the USB connector panel; see Figures 5.9 and 5.11.
Ensure that the right and left side slides are placed on the
correct sides of the USB connector panel.

Caution: The RFI fingers on the top and bottom of the Business card
USB connector panel are fragile! Exercise care
when inserting the panel into the PC to prevent
damaging the RFI fingers. Failure to do so
could damage the fingers and jeopardize the
RFI integrity of the system.

5.5.10 See Figure 5.12: Place a business card on top of the RFI
fingers, to protect them from damage and to guide them under
the PC frame, and slide the USB connector panel into the
front of the PC. Push the panel in to ensure that it is locked
RFI fingers

5.5.11 Connect the cable from the USB connector panel to the “USB
2” connector on the Motherboard; see Figure 5.13.

5.5.13 Remove the blanking panel from the PC’s front cover; see
Figure 5.15.
5.5.14 Re-install the PC’s front cover in reverse of how you removed
it and ensure that it snaps into place.

5.5.15 Re-install the PC to the system cart and secure it in place by
tightening the three screws on the back.
5.5.16 Ensure that all the cables on the back of the PC are properly
connected and secured.
5.5.17 Re-install the PC side cover and secure it in place by
tightening the thumb screws.
5.5.18 Re-install the system’s left side cover and secure it place with
the three screws.
5.5.19 Close the system’s rear door and latch it in place.
5.5.20 Do one of the following:
• If the Explora connector is being installed, proceed to
Step 5.6.
• If the Explora connector is not being installed, skip to Figure 5.13

5.6 Installing the Explora connector.

Caution: If the system already has four transducer


connectors, the Explora connector will
replace an existing connector. Confer with our
Customer to determine which connector to

5.6.1 Not all systems have every type of connector and some may
have more than one of a specific type. Regardless of the
connector availability, the following connector configuration
rules always apply; see Figure 5.16:
• The Explora connector must reside in Slot 1.

• There can be no blanking panel between a Standard
(Honda) connector and a Cannon connector.
• If fewer than four connectors are present: all connectors,
except the Non-Imaging Doppler connector, will move up
in location. (The Non-Imaging Doppler connector must

• Any empty slot is occupied by a blanking panel. Front panel tabs

5.6.2 Raise the control panel to its highest position.


5.6.3 Remove the e-Box front panel by pushing down on the two
tabs and pulling the panel forward; see Figure 5.17. Set the
panel aside.
5.6.4 Remove the four recessed screws securing the bezel and
connector in Slot 1; see Figure 5.18. Remove the bezel and
set it aside. Remove the current connector and set it aside.
5.6.5 Insert the Explora connector into the e-Box in Slot 1. Figure 5.17

5.6.6 Re-locate any other connector, ensuring to conform to the
configuration rules in Step 5.6.1:
• Remove the four recessed screws securing the panel
and connector. Screws
• Remove the panel and set it aside. (recessed)
• Remove the connector and set it aside.
• Insert the connector into its new location.
5.6.7 After all of the connectors have been moved, install each bezel
starting from the bottom slot. Secure each bezel in place with

the four screws previously removed.
5.6.8 Re-install the e-Box front panel. Connector
5.7 Power the system on; it will display the “Incompatible
Hardware Shutdown” message because it does not
recognize the new hardware. Proceed to Section 6.

6.0 INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE


6.1 Insert the OS CD labeled “Disk 1 of 2” into the CD drive and close the drive’s tray.
6.2 Cycle the system’s power and watch the bootup screen: When the “Press any key to boot from CD” is displayed,
press < ↵ > (on the keyboard). The installation process begins and the “Starting Windows Pre-Installation
Environment” message is displayed at the bottom of the screen. The pre-installation initialization requires
approximately 1 minute and 45 seconds to initialize.
Note: You must press < ↵ > within 5 seconds when the “Press any key to boot from CD” appears on-
screen. If this message does not appear on-screen, see Appendix A to reset the system’s BIOS and
then repeat Step 6.2.
Note: If the system does not boot from the CD, follow the instructions in Appendix A.

Caution: Twice during this installation process, the system reboots and the “Press any key to boot from
CD” reappears twice. DO NOT press any key when it appears. Doing so could corrupt the
installation process.

6.3 When the pre-installation is initialized, the “cmd.exe/k startnet.cmd-starnet.cmd” window appears, automatically
runs through a series of commands, and requires approximately 3 minutes to complete. The pre-installation is
complete when the system re-boots and boots up with the “First Boot Agent” window displayed on-screen.
6.4 The First Boot Agent installation begins, requires approximately 6 minutes and 50 seconds to complete, and is
complete when the system re-boots and boots up with the “C:\WINDOWS\system32\cscript.exe” window, which
is displayed on-screen for approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds.
6.5 When the “Please insert the “Operating system (2)” CD” message appears. Remove the current CD, replace it
with the OS CD labeled “Disk 2 of 2”, and then type {Y}. The file extraction and inflation begins, is displayed on-
screen, and requires approximately 1 minute and 50 seconds to complete.
6.6 When the “Please insert the “Ultrasound application “CD” message appears, remove the current CD, replace
it with the “C.1.0, SW, Application” CD and then type {Y}. The loading, starting, updating, installing, extracting, and
inflating begins, is displayed on-screen, and requires approximately 5 minutes and 30 seconds to complete.
6.7 When the “Please insert the “COTS drivers” CD” message appears, remove the current CD, replace it with the
“COTS 15, SW” CD, and then type {Y}. The COTS installation begins, is displayed on-screen, requires
approximately 7 minutes and 30 seconds to complete, and the software installation is complete when the system
reboots to the ultrasound display.
6.8 When the system boots up to the ultrasound display, a dialog box appears on-screen, stating that a final re-boot will
occur. The system then re-boots again.

Caution: If the system does not boot up to the ultrasound display, re-install the software. If the
installation fails again, troubleshoot as necessary and contact your country’s Technical
Support as required.

6.9 Eject the CD from the CD drive and close the drive's tray.

7.0 RESTORING THE USER PRESETS


7.1 Insert the floppy disk, that contains the system’s backed up presets, into the floppy disk drive.
7.2 Press <Setup>; the “Setup” window is displayed on-screen.
7.3 Place the cursor on the “Floppy Disk” tab and then press < ↵ Enter>.
7.4 Place the cursor on “Restore” and then press < ↵ Enter>.
7.5 Do one of the following:
• If the “Preset Restore Warning” dialog box is displayed, proceed to Step 7.6.
• If the “Preset Restore Warning” dialog box is not displayed, skip to Step 7.7.
7.6 Place the cursor on “OK” and then press < ↵ Enter> to close the dialog box and display the “Restore Settings”
window. Any preset that was not restored is shown in the “Application Presets:” section but does not have a
check-box next to it. The preset was not restored because the required software application is not enabled. The
options will be enabled when the Restore is done in Step 7.7.

7.7 At the bottom of the “Restore Settings” window, ensure that there is a check mark in each of the applicable boxes
next to “System settings”, “Printer and VCR settings”, and “Options”. If a check mark is not there, place the
cursor on the box and press < ↵ Enter> to put a check mark in the box. Each applicable box must have a check
mark in it, otherwise, some of the settings will not be restored.
Note: If the listing under “Select additional information to restore” is not clearly visible, it is not
applicable and cannot have a check mark.
7.8 Place the cursor on “Start” and then press < ↵ Enter>; the restore process begins. The time required for
completing the restore process varies and depends on the size of the files being restored.
7.9 When the process is complete, the “Restore Settings” window disappears and the “Setup” window is displayed
again.
7.10 Place the cursor on the “Floppy Disk” tab and then press < ↵ Enter>.
7.11 Place the cursor on “Restore” and then press < ↵ Enter>; the “Restore Settings” window is displayed on-
screen.
7.12 Do one of the following:
• If either of the “Presets:” box shows user presets, place the cursor on “Select All”, press < ↵ Enter>, and then
proceed to Step 7.13.
• If either of the “Presets:” box does not show user presets (it is blank), skip to Step 7.17.
7.13 At the bottom of the window, ensure that there is a check mark in each of the applicable boxes next to “System
settings”, “Printer and VCR settings”, and “Options”. If a check mark is not there, place the cursor on the box
and press < ↵ Enter> to put a check mark in the box. Each applicable box must have a check mark in it, otherwise,
some of the settings will not be restored.
Note: If the listing under “Select additional information to restore” is not clearly visible, it is not
applicable and cannot have a check mark.
7.14 Place the cursor on “Start” and then press < ↵ Enter>; the restore process begins. The time required for
completing the restore process varies and depends on the size of the files being restored.
7.15 When the process is complete, the “Restore Settings” window disappears and the “Setup” window is displayed
again.
7.16 Place the cursor on “Apply” and then press < ↵ Enter>.
7.17 Place the cursor on “Close” and then press < ↵ Enter> to close the “Setup” window.
7.18 Eject the floppy disk from the floppy disk drive.
7.19 Do one of the following:
• If the software level was A.1.2 or B.0.2 prior to this upgrade, proceed to Step 7.20.
• If the software level was C.0.1, C.0.2, or C.1 prior to this upgrade, skip to Step 7.21.
Note: A.1.2 and B.0.2 software use different peripherals setups, which cannot be migrated to the system
after the C.1.0 upgrade.

7.20 Restoring the system’s peripheral settings.


7.20.1 Press <Setup>; the “Setup” window is displayed on-screen.
7.20.2 Place the cursor on the “Peripherals” tab and then press < ↵ Enter>.
7.20.3 Using your notes, enter all of the available information on this window.

8.5 Using your notes, verify all of the information shown in the “DICOM Preset” window.
8.6 Place the cursor on "OK" and then press < ↵ Enter> to close the “DICOM Setup” window.
8.7 Place the cursor on “Apply” and then press < ↵ Enter>.
8.8 Place the cursor on “Close” and then press < ↵ Enter> to close the “Setup” window.

9.0 COMPLETING THE UPGRADE


9.1 If our customer had images stored on the hard drive, ask them if they want to restore any or all of those images and
then do the following:
• If they want to restore the images, restore the images from the disk(s) containing them and then proceed to
Step 9.2.
• If they do not want to restore the images, proceed to Step 9.2.
Note: Inform our customer of the following:
- Images cannot be restored to the hard drive in PC Format.
- New measurements cannot be created on any DICOM image that has been restored to the hard
drive.

9.2 If the upgrade failed for any reason, troubleshoot as necessary before proceeding further. Otherwise, proceed to
Section 10.

10.0 VERIFYING THE SYSTEM'S OPERATION


10.1 Reconnect the USB cable to each OEM and power on each OEM.
10.2 Ensure that no scanhead is connected to the system.
10.3 Perform the Resident Self Tests (RST); refer to the Service Manual. Troubleshoot and fix any problems
encountered.
Note: Refer to FCO79500014 to obtain the RST password.
10.4 Connect a scanhead to the system and use the Reference Manual and the Operating Notes to verify correct
operation of the system. Troubleshoot and fix any problems encountered.
10.5 Do one of the following:
• If the system has a plain paper printer AND a USB printer, proceed to Step 10.6.
• If the system does not have both a plain paper printer and a USB printer, skip to Section 11.0.
10.6 Send a print to the USB printer and verify correct operation.
10.7 Send a print to the plain paper printer and verify correct operation.
Note: Performing the above Steps will ensure that the printers are correctly set up.

11.0 COMPLETING THE INSTALLATION


11.1 If it is present on the system, cut the cable tie securing the “Not For Diagnostic Use” label and discard the label and
cable tie.
11.2 If the 453561206881 Ops Note is present on-site, explain to our customer that it is no longer needed and then
discard the Ops Note.
Note: The problem described in the 453561206881 Ops Note is fixed in C.1.0 software.
11.3 Do the following:
• If a Standard (Honda) or Cannon connector was removed from the system, return it to the factory via the
MRA process.
• If any blanking panel and bezel was removed from the system, discard them.
11.4 Report completion of this upgrade per normal procedure.

Appendix A
Setting the System’s BIOS

Caution: In order to perform this procedure, access to the system’s operating software is required.
Access is granted by entering a special key sequence. Be sure you know what the key
sequence is before beginning the procedure.

A. Reboot the system. While the system is booting, press the <Preset> key repeatedly until the BIOS screen is
displayed.
B. Press <  > until “BOOT” is highlighted.
C. Press <  > until the “BOOT Device Priority” is highlighted and then press < ↵ >.
D. Select the “First Boot Device” and then press < ↵ >.
E. Press <  > and <  > to select “CD-ROM” and then press < ↵ >.
F. Press <  > to select the “Second Boot Device” and then press < ↵ >.
G. Press <  > and <  > to select “Removable Drive” and then press < ↵ >.
H. Press <  > to select the “Third Boot Device” and then press < ↵ >.
I. Using the <  > and <  > buttons, select “Hard Drive” and then press < ↵ >.
J. Press the <Option 2> button, highlight “Yes”, and then press < ↵ >. This will save the BIOS settings and the
system will reboot.
K. Return to the installation instructions.
