Detailed Lesson Plan in Teaching Science in Elementary Grade

Content Standard

The learners will demonstrate understanding about male and female reproductive
system.

Performance Standard

The learners will be able to determine the function of each part of the
reproductive system.

Learning Competencies

At the end of the discussion, the learners will be able to…

a.) Create diagram of human reproductive system
b.) Classify the function of each part of the reproductive system
c.) Value the importance of knowing the concept and function of male and female
reproductive system

I. Subject Matter

A. Topic: The Human Reproductive System

B. Reference: Smart Science 5 Diwa Textbook Chapter 1 pages 2-15
C. Author: Marina Balce
D. Materials: Power Point presentation, Illustration of Female and Male
Reproductive System, Coloring Materials, Worksheet, Manila Paper.
E. Value Integration: The importance of male and female reproductive
system.

II. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Engagement

 Greetings
what a pleasant morning to all! Good Good Morning Ma’am!
Morning Class!

 Prayer
before we start, Sister, kindly lead the
Sister: Yes ma’am (In the name of the father,
prayer
the Son, The holy, sprit AMEN
Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom
God's love commits me here, ever this day be
at my side, to light and guard, to rule and
guide. Amen. )

 Classroom Management
Before you all take your seats, kindly
check first the alignment of your
chairs and pick up the pieces of trash
under it.
(The class align their chairs and they pick up
the pieces of trash under their chairs)

 Checking of Attendance
Now, let us check your attendance.
Pearl, can I know who absent in your
class today?
Pearl: No absent today Ma’am!

Okay Very Good!

 Energizer
Play a Game (Blind Artist)

I will allow you choose your desire

partner in this game. Each partner
must have handkerchief to use as
blindfold. You will choose between
you and your partner the person
who’s going to play as blind artist.

For example, Maureen and Geeneil,

Maureen is the blind artist. She is the
one who will draw the given image
and Geneeil as her partner will give
her instruction and detail on how she
is going to draw the given image.

Are you ready?

Yes ma’am!
Very Good!

 Review

Let’s have a recap about our past

lesson

What was our topic last meeting? Princess: Our topic last meeting Ma’am was all
about human sense organs

What are the examples of human

sense organs? Erika: The example of human sense organs are
sense of sight with the use of our eyes, sense
of smell with the use of our nose, sense of
touch with our hands, sense of taste with our
tongue and lastly the sense of hear with the
use of our ears.

What are the sense organs?

Rochelle: The sense organs are eyes, ears,
nose, tongue and hands

What will happen if we fail to take

good care our body?
Sister: If we fail to take good care of human
body, we can get a lot of disease and our body
will collapse

B. Motivation

Video Presentation
(about human reproductive system)

 Class, we will going to watch a video

presentation about human
reproductive system and after that
you will going to have a Group
Activity.
 I have here a box and inside there
colors and each of you will pick one
and go to your group according to
your color.

Based on the Video

 For Group 1, discuss the female
reproductive system Jona: Criteria for the presentation
 For Group 2, make a report about
male reproductive system
Cooperation: 50%
Presentation: 40%
Here’s the criteria of your activity. Jona, Creativity: 10%
kindly read the criteria. Total: 100%

Pearl: It is about male reproductive system

C. Lesson Presentation

Okay class, Based on the video presentation, Maureen: It is about human reproductive
what does the video all about? system
Correct!
What else?

Correct!

The video is all about human reproductive

system.

Group 1 created a flowchart of female

D. Activity Discussion
reproductive system

Okay class, let’s proceed to our Activity

presentation. May I call Group 1 to present
their flowchart

Correct!

 Group 1 created a flowchart wherein

fallopian tube is a pair of ducts leading
from the ovaries to the uterus.
Fallopian tube serves as pathways
where ova travel from the ovary to the
uterus. Ovaries alternately produce
the female sex cells and secrete the
female hormones. Uterus pear shaped
muscular organ. Uterus receives and
holds the fertilized ovum that
eventually develops into a fetus.
Cervix is the neck of the uterus that
opens to the vagina. Serves as
passageway of menstrual and for
sperm. Vagina a thin-walled
passageway through which the sperm
can enter to the fallopian tube.

What is the other name of vagina? Group 1: Birth canal

Correct!

Vagina is also known as birth canal. Serves

as passage way of the baby during birth.

Let’s give Group 1, 4 claps Group 2:

The parts of the male reproductive system
Next, lets proceed to next Group, Group 2 are testis, scrotum, penis, urethra, epididymis,
vas deferens, prostate gland, Cowper’s glands
and Seminal vesicles. The male sex organs
work together to produce and release semen
into the reproductive system of the female
during sexual intercourse. The male
reproductive system also produces sex
hormones, which help a boy develop into a
sexually mature man during puberty.
Correct!

 The group 2 is right. The testes is

usually consists of a pair that are
surrounded by several layers of
connective tissues. Scrotum is a part
of the external male genitalia located
behind and underneath the penis.
Human penis is an external male
intermittent organ that additionally
serves as the urinal duct. The urethra
is a thin, fibromuscular tube that
begins at the lower opening of the
bladder and extends through the
pelvic and urogenital diaphragms to
the outside of the body. Epididymis a
highly convoluted duct behind the
testis, along which sperm passes to
the vas deferens. Vas deferens is a
tiny muscular tube in the male
reproductive system that carries
sperm from the epididymis to the
ejaculatory duct.

Let’s give Group 2, 4 claps

Sister: The prostate is a walnut-sized gland

What is a prostate gland? Anyone? located between the bladder and the penis.
The prostate is just in front of the rectum. The
urethra runs through the center of the prostate,
Correct! from the bladder to the penis, letting urine flow
out of the body.
 To sum up, Prostate gland secretes
fluid that nourishes and protects
sperm. During ejaculation, the prostate
squeezes this fluid into the urethra and
it’s expelled with sperm as semen.

 While the Cowper’s gland serves as a

lubricant and urine neutralizer.
Seminal vesicle serves as source of
energy of the sperm.

E. Generalization Erika: It is the biological system made up of all

the anatomical organs involved in sexual
Again class, what is reproductive system? reproduction. Many non-living substances such
as fluids, hormones, and pheromones are also
important accessories to the reproductive
system.

Correct!

Princess: Fallopian tube serves as pathways

Give me 1 part of female reproductive system where ova travel from the ovary to the uterus.
and tell its function?

Correct!

Geneeil: The testes are usually consists of pair

How about male reproductive system?
that are surrounded by several layers of
connective tissues.
Jona: Vas deferens is a tiny muscular tube in
the male reproductive system that carries
sperm from the epididymis to the ejaculatory
duct.

Correct!

Very Good Class. It’s nice to know that you

understand our lesson.

F. Application
I will group you into 2 groups, in my right
side will be the Group 1 and in my left
side will be the Group 2.

Each group will be given an activity

worksheet and you only have 10 minutes
to that.

Time starts now.

III. Evaluation

Write the FRS if the given parts tackle about female reproductive system and MRS if it
is in male reproductive system.

1. _________ Penis
2. _________ Cervix
3. _________ Cowper’s gland
4. _________ Vagina
5. _________ Prostate gland

IV. Assignment

Get an old books or magazine. Then cut the female and male reproductive system of a
human and it will serve as your guide.
