Speech Writing and Delivery Contest Mechanics


Qualifications: Any male or female from grade 10 level
Guidelines
1. Each contestant shall only be given 1 hour to compose and write his/her ideas before the
delivery. They have to bring their own writing materials such as bond paper and pen.
2. Each speech must be delivered for a minimum of two minutes to a maximum of three minutes.
3. The medium shall be in Filipino or English or Taglish. One topic shall be given to all contestants.
4. Three consecutive bell rings shall serve as a warning for the last minute of delivery. The
microphone shall be automatically muted when his/her time is up.
5. The contest will be done in the morning on Monday, 29th of November.
6. All entries shall be judged by the selected panel of judges.
7. Proper dress code (formal attire or school uniform) must be observed.
8. The judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.
9. Only the first place will be declared during the culmination program and he or she will be given
certificate of recognition and a gold medal.

Criteria for Judging Weight


Organization of Ideas 25%
 Flow of ideas must be clear and appropriate to the topic
 Speaker must focus to the key ideas and main points of the given topic
Content 40%
 Sufficient use of logic, facts, examples, and/or expert opinion
 Speaker must use information pertinent to the specific topic
Delivery 35%
 Appropriate use of pauses, punctuation, intonation, modulation of voice
 Delivery must be natural and spontaneous
 Speaker must exhibit poise and confidence
TOTAL 100%

Extemporaneous Speaking Contest Mechanics


Qualifications: Any male or female from grade 10 level
Guidelines
1. Each contestant shall only be given 2 minutes to compose his/her ideas before the delivery.
2. Each speech must be delivered for a minimum of two minutes to a maximum of three minutes.
3. The medium shall be English. A topic shall be given to all contestants thru a drawn by lot
4. Three consecutive bell rings shall serve as a warning for the last minute of delivery. The
microphone shall be automatically muted when his/her time is up.
5. The contest will be done in the morning on during the culmination program.
