I. PROJECT TITLE:
PROJECT PANACEA: A Learning Recovery Plan

II. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE

Adapting the DepEd Memo No. 036 series of 2021 on the Conduct of Remedial and

Advancement Classes During Summer 2021, the proponent conceived a developmental

project to give remedial to her learners who are at risk or lag behind in terms of literacy

and numeracy. Panacea comes from a Greek word meaning "all-healing". It means a

remedy for all ills and difficulties. In this time of Pandemic, still our health and medical

advocates couldn’t find perfect panacea of Covid-19 and perfectly eradicate this crisis so

as in Education which is greatly affected, educators also are nonstop in finding ways to

elevate the quality of education despite of our current situation. As an educator especially

in key stage 1, the proponent believes that remedial lessons and sessions or learning

recovery plan are perfect panacea for her learners’ learning difficulties.

This project is named Project Panacea since this will be the remedy for all learning

difficulties of the Grade I Matapat learners S.Y. 2021-2022 especially their literacy and

numeracy development. In this project, it also focuses the development and refinement of

their writing basic skills thus includes also monitoring their answering modules and

summative tests since most of the chosen learners are hard-up in submitting modules as

well as summative tests on time. This project is purposively to the learners who need

follow up or remediation.

III. OBJECTIVE AND EXPECTED OUTCOME

Project Panacea aims to:

1. Serve as a learning recovery plan or remedial teaching strategy to learners who are
slow and non readers.
2. Remedy the learning difficulties of Grade I Matapat learners especially in reading.
3. Elevate the quality of education despite the situation we are currently facing which is
caused by this pandemic.

proper IATF protocols. Classroom is already set up for the limited face to face since our

school already complied during the monitoring and evaluation of School preparation to

limited Face to Face.

The Marungko Approach will be used for the pupils to develop their reading skills.

The sequence of the lessons are the following:

1. The first 5 lessons are as follows: m, s, a, i, o

Teach each sound and form until mastery before a new sound is introduced:

A. Ask a question to which the response will elicit the target sound. You can use

pictures of words beginning with m, s, a etc depending on the current lesson.

B. Show the target letter and tell the children to sound it again as they look at the

letter.

C. Show them how to write it. Ask them to write it, with the fingers in the air, on

their palm, on their desks, and on paper as they give sound.

D. Mastery means they know the sound and the form of the target letter. They can

give the sound and write the symbol.

2. After the first 3 sounds have been mastered, these can be combined to form words, phrases

or sentences. Start blending of sounds. Every new sound is introduced with previous sounds

already learned and in various combinations into words. Start blending of sounds.

3. Introduce function words that can not be taught through the phono syllabic method as

whole words e.g. ang, ng, mga, ay.
